  1. Totally agree! Congrats to all of you who got amazing acceptance! I've been admitted to University of Minnesota for my MA (they sent our their decisions if anyone here applied to this school). Never thought the whole application process can be so smooth. I've learned and benefited a lot from this forum, so if anyone has prob about master's application, especially for international students, feel free to PM me~~~
  2. @Des Grieux, speaking of wasting application fees, I applied to 14 MA programs, some of which are not really a good fit for my research interests. However, since I didn't have any formal training in linguistics, so my research interests are not so narrowed. Also, I just checked out my UMN application status, and it turned into "Final Review". Hope this will be a good news for me. Dream School, I'll be mending my broken heart if the adcomm finally makes a decision to reject me. Hope for the best!
  3. I'm not sure if UIowa is a rolling program, but I applied really early (I got everything done by the end of September and sent all of them). I know it was crazy but as a non-linguistics major I don't think my background would suddenly enhance a lot. I'll wait until the end of March to make a decision. Yeah, I'll go without funding for the first year. Hope there will be more good news for us and everyone here! Congratulations! Des Grieux
  4. Thanks for the advice! I'm very interested in Prof. Becker's research in first language acquisition, but I also want to learn more about syntax. So I'll wait for a while since adcomms usually give out PhD offers first. GL to your UMD interview!
  5. So it's you posting on the results page. I got my Iowa acceptance on late November and UNC-CH on Jan. 22th. FYI, Iowa's funding decisions will come up in early March. Maybe we'll be classmates in the future
  6. Hi, guys! This is my first post here. I applied to MA programs for fall 2013. Since most of people here are PhD applicants, I dunno how to chime in. LOL I didn't have a good background in linguistics, so I applied to 14 programs in case I may end up going nowhere. Up to now, I got acceptances from UNC-chapel hill and UIowa. My dream school is UMinnesota, It would be great if someone can give me some advice. Best luck to all of you!
  7. I know little about phonology, but I found lots of info. on quantity-sensitive when I was googling Hayes Metrical Stress Theory.
  8. Thanks for your timely reply first! I have contacted several profs in each program whose work I'm really interested in, but only one of them gave a reply (I guess it was a positive one), partly because her current research projects are pretty close to my interests (syntax and Chinese Linguistics). By sending profs e-mails, I just want them to be familiar with my name so that they might notice me during the application process. I don't have much background in linguistics up to now, so it's understandable that most profs are not interested in me. But it won't hurt if I just send e-mails to introduce myself and show my interests.
  9. Hi, guys. I'm an international student who is currently applying to several M.A. programs in linguistics for the fall of 2013. My primary research interests lie in theoretical linguistics, specifically, morphology, syntax, and psycholinguistics (I do hope to know more about neurolinguistics as well). Given my lack of relevant research experience in linguistics as well as formal course work (my undergrad major is English, and I'm taking Intro. to Linguistics at present), shall I contact the professor whose research I'm interested in after reading some of his/her papers? I'm not sure what to say. Do I just introduce myself and show my interests in his/her work? (I did mention the professors of interests in my SOPs to each program). Also, will they usually reply to these kind of e-mails? Thanks a lot!
