    Long-time lurker, first-time poster here =)

@mica_c I also applied for MediaAC, and am on the reserve list. Do you think you are going to accept? I have so many questions about the reserve list, to be honest: they said to let them know by the 20th if we accept the offer, but then there is also a slim possibility that you will be moved to the main list. So how does it work? Say, if I were to accept this offer, but only out of hope that I'll be moved to the main list (or if I am waiting to hear from external funding source), what is going to happen next if the money falls through? They did not do a great job explaining this in the email. Also, they way I understand it, they are not even allowed to tell you how high you are placed on the reserve list if you want to assess you chances of moving up.

    Hey there,

At this point I don't know, because the details are so vague. I wonder though, if the letter is different for everyone, because their exact words to me regarding the Main List were "Instances when applicants on the Main List decline or are found to be ineligible are rare." Or is this what you are pertaining to by "slim possibility of moving to the Main List"? I'm not banking on getting on the Main List, although I would like to know more about "It also means you will be prioritized for other funding outside of the Erasmus Mundus scheme." There's been mention of Geographical Windows on this thread, and I wonder if MediaAC also has that, and whether one must first (like you said) accept the self-funded/external-funded placement offer to be prioritized for these. But from what I gather, they send out external funding offers together or shortly after the Main/Reserve notice. Well, I guess it's best to ask the Secretariat. I would actually try to ask them about my exact ranking too, I don't know, it might be kind of disheartening to find out I'm #39 out of 40 haha. Keep in touch and I hope it works out for you!

  2. Just FYI guys,

I got a financial aid package from CCA in the mail today. They offered me a scholarship and a work-study (which I believe is a TAship) but not full-ride. They also gave me student loan info in the same packet.

Hey that's great, sculptor! Did it arrive separately from your acceptance letter? What kind of scholarship did you get?

  3. If it helps you to know this, my friend went to CalArts for Graphic Design MFA in the early 2000's: he got an outside scholarship that covered his first year of study, then after his first year spent a year working in a US design agency where he was able to save up for his next CalArts school year, and got through the rest of his program successfully.

You may be able to find more information about practical training here: http://www.internationalstudent.com/study_usa/way-of-life/working-in-the-usa.shtml

  4. Thanks for your good wish! I think I probably had the microscopic bit of a chance, and I messed up in the most pointless way possible. But it's OK, I know it's my fault, I had been under-performing for a while now for reasons that just does not seem very important anymore suddenly. My life it's not over, I'll take this as a lesson learned :)

    Hope it works out, ysun!

  5. Hey mica_c! I did my Cal Arts interview last week . . . they let me know only a day or so in advance as to the date and time, so maybe you'll hear this week. Depending on the department, they might be doing interviews either before or after the "interview day." I dunno, I'm sure you'll hear soon, though you may want to put in a phone call . . .

Thanks miyamoto81! The constant stressing out over CalArts is getting to be a little embarrassing haha :P

  6. question: do yall send thank yous to your interviewers after the fact? i feel like i want to, if only because i truly did enjoy the experience.

would this be tacky, or good form?

Yes, send a thank you note. I agree with olderdog.

I think a lot of interviewers make an effort to be nice and make sure their interviewees are comfortable enough to open up and talk about themselves. So I think they deserve credit for that!
