  1. Thanks so much! I wasn't able to go to the open houses, so I visited a few weeks ago. I actually loved MGH, but there are many incentives about BU, as you mentioned...smaller class size, the resources of a large university, the location... I also received more funding from BU, so that's a big incentive as well! MGH is definitely really special, though...faculty seems amazing and very invested in the success of the students. I think that you are right in that we can't go wrong! I am also seriously leaning toward BU...
  2. Hi all!! I wonder if anyone who went to the MGH and/or BU open houses might be willing to share a little bit when they have a chance...I'm very interested to hear what other people's perceptions were! Thanks all!
  3. Wow, congratulations! Those are wonderful accomplishments! This is definitely a huge, very personal decision for you. It also probably depends a lot on what stage of life you are in. For example, I've already been out of university for several years and have spent more than a year abroad, so at this point in my life, I would want to start my graduate studies now rather than postponing them for a year. If I was younger and hadn't had those experiences, though, I would definitely want to take advantage of the year abroad. The Fulbright is definitely a tremendous opportunity. If it's something you want to do, it might be worth the pain of potentially having to reapply to grad schools for when you return. If you did have to re-apply, I suspect that having the Fulbright on your resume would greatly enhance your chances of being admitted (again!). I'm sorry I don't have better advice to offer, but I do wish you lots of clarity in your decision!
  4. I was told the end of March when I contacted TC. I think it's so unfair that some schools keep us waiting so long! We give them plenty of time to decide, but they think it's ok to tell us in April when we must make a final decision by April 15? Frustrating.
  5. Congratulations, Allie! I'm sure you must be thrilled to have made a decision, and it sounds like it is a great one. I wish you lots of success and happiness at UW!
  6. Thanks for the feedback, SLP Allie! I definitely agree that I would prefer a smaller class size. I did visit both MGH and BU, though, and the impression that current students at MGH gave me is that because their professors don't have undergraduates to focus on, they do give a lot of attention to the graduate students, which is definitely really important to me. The professors actually seemed really interested and invested in their students. There are certainly benefits and drawbacks to both programs; I just have to weigh what's most important to me. Hmm. I'm really grateful to be in the position of making a decision, though :-)
  7. Anyone thinking about MGH versus BU? I received more funding from BU, but I really like MGH... does anyone have thoughts or experiences?
  8. Really sorry to hear that. Hope NYU works out in the end!!
  9. I didn't apply there, but it boggles my mind that so many schools will send responses so late when we have to make our decision by April 15!
  10. Even though I got a phone call today, I also got this email, so it seems like the email was sent to all applicants. I hope you hear good news soon, WannabeSLP!
  11. Thanks so much to all of you for the congrats! I am so thrilled. Wannabe, I hope your phone rings shortly!!!!!
  12. Got a call just a bit ago telling me that I was accepted and being offered a $15,000/year merit scholarship!! YAY! Hope you guys hear soon. They are definitely still making calls!
  13. Thanks for the encouragement...keeping the hope alive! :-) Congratulations!
  14. Haha, probably not! Guess we both just have to wait...ugh! Hope we both hear good news soon :-)
  15. Ugh, not it, either! I hate making those types of calls. I feel like they're going to want to dump my application in the rejection pile because I'm clearly too impatient! That being said, it is driving me crazy that some people have heard from MGH today, and my phone has been depressingly quiet... (Maybe I am too impatient )
  16. I can't believe they called people about MGH today! Like some of you, I REALLY hope that they haven't finished making their acceptance calls yet!!!!
  17. Hi Lalabooks, I haven't heard back from Towson yet, but I did hear from University of Maryland last week (good news, fortunately!). It seems like some schools respond on more of a rolling basis, and I know I had my applications in pretty early. I was really shocked to hear back so early. Like you, though, I still am sitting tight and waiting for the other schools I applied to...I think it's going to be a while yet, based on the results from previous years. Good luck!
  18. Yep, I applied to Towson for a 3-year program as well! I also applied to BU, MGH, Columbia, GA State (and obviously UMD!) :-)
  19. Congratulations, Allie!! I'm still waiting to hear from Towson...hope to hear soon. Sounds like you had a great week last week..yay!
  20. Allie, awesome news!!! Congratulations!
  21. I got an email from HESP admissions that was titled "Admissions Decision." The inside had a link to a google document with my acceptance letter. They never put the letter up on the site, so it's definitely neither a good or bad sign that the letter isn't up for you, either. I hope you get an email with good news ASAP!
  22. That is super frustrating!! Hope you hear good news from them soon!
  23. I think you probably didn't even realize there was a 3 year option because it didn't apply to you, since you already have the background...I get an extra year so I can catch up to where you guys already are! Good luck, hope you hear good news soon!
  24. Thanks, I really hope that this was the first of more good news! I'm especially hoping that one of the schools will decide to offer some funding...that would be beyond amazing! The thought of taking on tons of debt is a little scary.... I double majored in Psychology and English as an undergrad (I'm a few years out of school now). I've had a lot of experience with kids, including children with autism (which I am particularly interested in), as well as experience with adults with Alzheimer's. I had thought about clinical psych, but I'm not terribly interested in research and the thought of 5-7 years in grad school....not for me! Just last year, someone suggested SLP, and when I did more research, I discovered that I love the field...so here I am! :-) Allie, I hope that UMD gets around to the 2-year program soon!!! This whole waiting process is horribly nerve-wracking. I hope you get great news soon!
