  1. Last year my friend had the same problem where one of her rec letter writers never sent her letter to USF and they sent her the same email asking her to send it in ASAP and they would still consider her. Because she had already gotten accepted to her top programs when she got that email, though, she just emailed them back and withdrew her application. So to answer your question, yes I guess it is something they do every year, and like SLP826 said, you still have as good a chance as anyone on the waitlist of getting in. So if it is a school you are seriously considering, I'd have your rec letter writer submit her letter ASAP...but if it's not one of your top choices, I'd just politely email them back and let them know they don't need to consider your application anymore.
  2. Personally, I would lean towards the programs with fewer students. If the reason the first program has so many students is simply because they overaccepted, then the program/classes/clinical placements might not be designed for or used to so many students which could affect your experience even more than programs that are built to accept that many students. It could also hinder the amount of one on one interaction between faculty and students, which I think is something that's really important in grad school...and clinical placements might even be cramped which definitely wouldn't be any fun. I'm not sure how opposed you are to moving (I know I actually WANT to move ), so if it really is a huge factor in your decision i don't think 60 students is really a HUGE deal..I know some programs do admit a lot more students than others, but I have always favored the smaller programs because I think in our field the attention we get as grad students makes a huge difference! Just my two cents! Good luck with your decision!
  3. Wow looks like it's been a pretty busy week! I got back from a 7-day cruise this morning to find that I had been accepted to both Vanderbilt and University of Florida while I was gone! And from looking through the past week on this thread it sounds like lots of others have gotten into some great programs, too! Congrats to everyone...I'm so glad this whole process is almost over! Now I'm getting excited about the next (more exciting) step of choosing a program and making the big move! Is anyone else leaning towards/definitely decided on Vanderbilt? I'm down to Vandy and UNC Chapel Hill right now, but leaning pretty heavily toward Vandy and would love to start talking to potential future classmates!
  4. No, they have yet to make/send decisions. I know in past years they've emailed all decisions (acceptances, waitlists, denials), but it actually wouldn't surprise me if they mail them this year. I'm not really sure what the full story is, but I know they've been debating how to send even acceptances into the undergrad major out for the past couple years (we have to apply to the upper division before our junior year). They have to get approval to be able to email it out...something to do with privacy I think. Maybe the higher-ups told them they had to mail decisions out this year? Like I said, I'm not really sure about all the details, but I have at least heard about this whole mail vs. email debate going on in the department. I was actually thinking about going down there in person tmrw if I have time between my classes and seeing if I can get any more information, so I'll post anything I find out if I do make it over!
  5. Anyone else get the email for Penny Welch this morning saying that Vanderbilt is hoping to have decisions by Friday? It also said that we should hear something by Friday, which makes it seem like they might be emailing out decisions this year instead of mailing them (since that's the only way decisions would be made and we would hear back on the same day...). What're everyone else's thoughts? Should we be expecting emails on Friday, or was it just poor wording? And congrats to everyone who's gotten acceptances this week!!
  6. They're sending them out via email. I think they're going out in waves since I heard on Tuesday afternoon, others heard on Wednesday morning, and I know of some people that still haven't heard. Sit tight, I'm sure you'll hear soon!!
  7. A little late, but right now I'm most interested in the more medical side - voice disorders and dysphagia, as well as neurogenic com disorders. Also, congrats to everyone who got good news today! Looks like decisions are starting to pick up...ahhh!
  8. Yep got an email saying I am being "referred for acceptance". I have a lot of friends who still haven't heard back from them though, and I just got mine about 30 mins ago, so I'm guessing I was somehow in the first wave to go out. Good luck!!
  9. Just got an email acceptance to University of South Florida! Not one of my top schools, but still any acceptance is exciting! Hope everyone else gets some good news today too!
  10. I'm the same way...I need to get out of limbo and have a clearer picture of what exactly the next couple years of my life will look like. Literally laying in bed right now trying to convince myself that no matter how much I worry and refresh my inbox, it'll all be over in the next couple weeks. Not really calming me down as much as I'd hoped though I guess there's always tomorrow! Fingers crossed for good news for everyone!
  11. I know...I feel like all schools are getting so many applications this year!! Last year UF emailed decisions toward the end of spring break, so I guess they do work through it. And no, I haven't gotten any emails from them or heard anything other than that!
  12. I know UF normally tries to get decisions out by spring break (which is this week), but apparently this year they got around 150 more applications than they ever have (encouraging, right? ), so I was told not to get my hopes up about hearing anything before the middle of the month. That being said, though, I'm still hoping to hear by the end of the week. Hope this week picks up and everyone gets some good news! Good luck all!
