  1. Thank you both for your responses. I ended up emailing the Secretary. UofT is not my first choice, especially if they aren't funding, I just want to know at this point so I can conclude this application process. That being said, I just received my official letter from McGill. The funding isn't good at all. This is going to make my decision more difficult. Edit: The Secretary responded to me. I'm rejected, which is fine. No funding from UofT and so I would have rejected their offer of admission anyway. The important thing? I'm done! And I hit 5/6. That's my cue to exit. I wish all of you the best with your future plans.
  2. I'm thinking that it's time that I call UofT. I emailed them last week and didn't get a response. I have deadlines for other programs coming up, and I would like to hear from all schools before I make my final decision. Only issue is I have no idea who to contact! The website seems to have several people associated with the graduate program (Directors, Administrators, Secretaries). Any thoughts on who the best person to call would be?
  3. Agreed. I'm also waiting on funding info from York and UBC. Hopefully it comes soon!
  4. I also got an email from McGill saying I was admitted. Just UofT left for me, but considering they already have sent out admits I'm not that confident. They aren't funding, so I wouldn't have gone there anyway. I just want closure.
  5. Thank you! It appears that it might be - oh dear. I honestly wasn't expecting to get into more than one or two programs. I went into this process thinking that York and McGill were my top choices, so I'm going to wait to hear from McGill (hopefully this week!) before making any decisions. I would love any and all thoughts though!
  6. Just received an offer of admission to York University. For those still waiting, I hope yours is imminent.
  7. I just received my (informal) acceptance to UBC. I was recommend by the department, and am now just waiting for funding information.
  8. Sorry for the late response. I was waiting for my offer from Carleton to back-up what I wanted to say. Definitely depends on the program, but at the masters level the funding tends to be more TA/RA positions. Carleton's offer to me is the equivalent of a fully funded masters (though maybe not living as comfortable as some would desire) - so it is possible! I am under the impression, though, that Carleton tends to be quite generous in that regard.
  9. Yes, absolutely. The perk of being in the capital offset some of my initial hesitations. I would be more than happy to attend Carleton for the reasons you've listed (and they have quite an interesting faculty). If I receive other positive offers I'm going to have a difficult decision in front of me. I agree about McGill, the interests of the faculty seem to be less, er, wide-sweeping. I actually applied for the development studies options to try to take a more interdisciplinary approach in a department that I think could use some more interesting hires. I already live in Montreal, so there is a convenience factor for me. I understand the hesitation about Toronto completely; I think that my dad would be heartbroken if I attended UofT. They also don't tend to fund masters students. I'm originally from Toronto which is why those universities are particularly appealing to me (I can return home!). So many different variables in this process, amiright? According to the results page, notices are out for UofT on Friday just in case anyone missed that...
  10. I personally did not apply to U of O. I have heard great things about it from a friend who did a masters in English but moving to Ottawa is, admittedly, not my first choice, and I applied to Carleton because of faculty that had similar interests as me. I'm hoping for results from Toronto, York, or McGill as those are my preferred choices. That being said, I only applied to programs I would be happy to attend. Can I ask why you didn't apply to McGill?
  11. Yes, sorry, Carleton. Specifically the MA program. Thank you for the re-assurance, bentharbour. That's what I hoped. Given what's been reported on this forum about McGill's timeline I doubt I will know unequivocally in 30 days whether or not to attend Carleton. Well, one down, five to go!
  12. I also received news that I was recommended by the department. My first response from universities, so it's a relief that it's positive. I'm slightly concerned about the 30 day response time though. If need be, will they be lenient?
