wait listed at MIT, would have a serious problem since I really like my other options, especially UCn.. does anybody here know the chance of getting off the MIT waitlist?

Hi guys, I was wondering whether there's anyone out there with experience regarding the MIT waitlist. I was really amazed they even put me in, now I'd love to get off it. Do you know of people being waitlisted and later being accepted? Why would anyone decline an offer from them? It's "social sciences" btw, PhD
