  1. Unless Don wants to share the specific scholarship, there is really no way of knowing. One of my good friends deferred HKS for a year and saw his scholarship (a restricted university scholarship) reduced from full tuition to only half. This has been a crazy year for the endowment and part of the new funds may be a more optimistic outlook on the part of the various fund managers at Harvard...

Hi undersec, I called the financial aid office to find out if I was considered for any of the scholarships/fellowships I applied for. I was in turn directed to my financial aid advisor (I don't think it will be a wise decision to release his/her name), who was surprise I couldn't see my package on MYFAID page. So he/she told me to check back after a few minutes, and there was my package :) Anyway, I guess I will be declining the scholarship soon, after finalizing a new deal. Hopefully, someone else will be considered for the award. I was offered a full scholarship + stipend from an international organization-not HKS related...I've been lucky so far :D

  2. I believe these are need-based grants. HKS barely offers any merit-based scholarships. Lots of students are deferring from Kennedy for a year, which may be freeing up previously committed need-based funds. I deferred matriculation to HKS to pursue some research abroad and I know some friends are doing the same.

I definitely do understand where you coming from younglions/zourah. I'll definitely feel the same way if I was in your position. Actually, I don't know how the financial aid process operates...I applied for all fellowships/grants I was eligible for. Did any of you submit the extra essays for these scholarships/grant? Either way, I'm really excited. I enjoy the breadth of HKS' Political & Economic Dev't courses. I believe the PED courses have a great appreciation for the problems facing developing countries, and I believe I'll benefit a great deal from the program. Hopefully, someone at the Ford School will get my full ride + stipend...

  3. I'm close. It's between Ford and Duke. I'm leaning Ford though.

Last week I sent a letter begging for money (I got no funding originally) and if they give me something decent or at least show that they're willing to work with me and want me there I'll say yes. Even if they don't I still might, I'm busy thinking that scenario through right now.

BTW, speaking of letters, I sent them that letter asking for money exactly a week ago. Thought I would've heard at least something back from them by now. On Thursday I sent a copy of the letter directly to Beth Soboleski. Still nothing. :( Does this imply they're essentially not interested in me?

I don't think so, maybe after the 15th some funds will be available when some people decline their admission offers. Did you also inquire if they could give u in-state tuition? Also try contacting Regina Zmich, she is the Fellowship Advising Manager- 734-764-0453. Good Luck!!! It never hurts to try.

  4. Thanks for thinking of waitlist applicants MCneelified06. I'm on the wait list as well, but if I'm admitted and I don't get an external funding or sufficient funding from HKS, I won't attend as well. I've two full funding + stipend + health insurance (AIG package) . In my case, I can't dream about taking $120k loans since I'm international student and will certainly return home after my studies. I don't want my greatgrand children to place collection letters at my grave, instead of roses :) ....

  5. I attended UMich spring preview and was really impressed by the faculty and students as well. It appears everyone is always willing to assist each other in the Ford School. I enjoy the rigor of the program as well, and the opportunity to take elective courses from other departments. On the sad part, I noticed everyone had a strong sense of humor :) , so I'm getting ready for that. I'm pretty much decided I'll be attending Ford...
