Hi Everyone,
I have a question about contacting the Director of the PhD program to which I applied. I submitted my application 6 weeks ago -- they said they would have decisions by mid to late March, which is not that far away. I have recently had an abstract accepted and learned that the Program Director has some shared research interests (for some reason I did not realize this prior...ugh!).
Is it weird to contact now, after the fact, via email? With a brief email stating that I am a current applicant, and just wanted to introduce myself and share the above information. Keep it brief and simple and thank her for her time and consideration?
The only other reason I was thinking to do this is I currently work as an Instructor at the University to which I applied for the PhD program so this is a pretty big deal as far as furthering my role/education here and I have not met her prior.
What do you think? Does it seem weird? Needy? Desperate? It's really not, there is new info that I would really like to share that is not in my current application. I just am at a loss as to how it would be perceived. It seems like people contact all the time, but many do it prior to submitting the application.
