I have been in Spain since Easter and can't wait to see the mail in a few days! (But I'm glad I'm here... I needed to get away!)
-
It was definitely a relief to get an acceptance, but I'm really torn about the entire situation. I know I'm going to make an excellent SLP, but it's a shame that the the major deciding factor are an applicants GPA and GRE scores. Our field is so much more than that.
-
Especially after paying a good amount of money to apply. It shouldn't be hard to get us on a mass email list to just give a little notification.
-
This was actually my third year applying. I am lucky that I got in this year, but I think I have made it pretty clear that I totally disagree with the process.
-
I'm assuming they had it ranked by GPA and GRE score and gave the top 120 priority. I wish I knew exactly how it works, but I have no idea.

Here is what she said: Thank you for your inquiry. We have received over 470 applications for the Fall. We have sent out 120 acceptances to individuals who exceeded our minimum requirements for admission. If you have not heard from us, that means you are on the waiting list. We have to give the first round of acceptances until April 15 to respond. So, if there are spaces available after April 15, we will start taking people in from the waiting list. Currently, the waiting list is not ranked as we are still reviewing applications. UGH

Nevermind, just emailed Dr. Bahr. Over 470 applicants this year. wow.
-
Does anyone know anything about USF? I saw someone's going to the open house on the 4th, so is everyone else just on the waitlist?

I feel like undergrad institutions have to have some responsibility. As a whole, they graduate way more students than there are seats for graduate school and it's only getting worse.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your feedback. I am hoping to be accepted to a traditional program, but I know I will need to weigh out the pro's and con's if that's the case to make a final decision. I really love the interaction between peers and faculty which is my primary drive to be accepted into a traditional program. I had an interview at Mercy College last week and I really loved the faculty. It would be hard to give that up to do an online program. It would also be hard to give up a decent salary
-
Oh my goodness. I can not even imagine spending the much money on a degree. Wow.
-
I am just looking for input regarding doing an online degree vs a traditional face to face degree. I am working at an elementary school where they would offer to pay 1k/semester (not enough to make much of a difference at over 6k/semester), but it would take an extra year (3 total) to complete the program. Does anyone have any advice or just their opinion? Thanks!

I took a GRE prep course and added about 150 points to my score. That definitely helped. I also revamped my personal essay

this was my third year applying too! don't give up. it is awful keep getting denied admission or put on a wait list. but be persistent and don't give up.

I got into USC! I am so relieved. I applied to their online program since my job will pay for some of the tuition. Woo hoo!

I have the same problem. I feel like I shot myself in the foot by accepting enrollment into my undergrads honors program. It is a very frustrating experience. When I talked to the dean at my undergrad he told me that my only option was to play it up in my SOP. I know I will make an excellent SLP, I work as a speech and language specialist in a NJ elementary school now, but that doesn't seem to be enough.
-
Do you feel like your undergrad program prepared you for how difficult the admissions process would be? I know mine didn't. I went to the dean a few months ago and had a good cry with him along with explaining how mislead I was by the faculty.
-
I think a lot of people just apply to as many schools as possible without researching them because competition is so fierce. Undergrad programs have no problem graduating as many students as possible without properly portraying how difficult acceptance to a graduate program is. There are SO many undergrads applying for 20/30 seats per program. I have talked to a few deans of colleges and directors of programs and the majority have told me that if you don't meet the stats they are looking for it is difficult to admit you into the program. I graduated from the honors college at my school and I basically feel as though I shot myself in the foot for taking more rigorous coursework. If you don't get into school, what can you really do with a bachelors in speech and language?

Has anyone heard from Southern Miss? I called and they said that there are about 200 people on the wait list. Was just wondering if anyone was planning on rejecting their offer of admission.
-
I got a letter from Longwood today stating that I was placed on their wait list, but am top 8 of 27 candidates. Anyone else hear anything?
-
Being at work is terrible. I want to go home and check my mail!
-
i saw a few people said they heard back from towson on the admissions board. any idea how they are sending out notification?
-
It went well. I spoke with Dr. Fisher. I was a little nervous because I haven't had an interview for anything other than my current job over a year and a half ago. I am really looking forward to hearing back in April. It would be awesome to continue working, while my current job pays for a certain number of credits. LaSalle was super expensive so I'm looking to spend as little as possible on my grad degree. I know a few graduates from the Nova program and regardless of what anyone says about it being online, they definitely know their stuff and are excellent SLPs. Did they give you an approximate start date?
-
I just had my interview with Nova for (potentially) Fall 2013 or Winter 2014, depending on seats available. I am waiting to hear from USC (online), USF, LaSalle (my alma mater), U of Southern Miss, Loyola, Towson, Chapman, Pacific, JMU, Longwood, and Mercy. Phew. Has anyone heard back from any of these schools yet? I am expecting we will hear back within the next few weeks, but just wanted to ask.
