  1. congrats, lxs! go!! this whole thing is too big a crapshoot to do over... it's your dream, right? you'll make it work then.
  2. in at b.u. :| safety sku. funding will determine that, though... <===too many smilies? lxs, your combined score is 1300...this is the median for most schools. fret not. the gre is less important than your work experience for sure!
  3. sorry, arthistorian. i've been busy. yes, an email. you should be thankful you didn't get waitlisted, though...i'm pretty sure it's better to be in the tier above me.
  4. waitlisted at berkeley..."soo, you're tellin' me there's a chance." :? not bad. i was expecting an outright denial from them...my advisor knew noone from berkeley, but he must have written a really good letter (as he promised).
  5. i think i'm not a teacup poodle. 8) i'm a mutt, and i like my thoughts diversified. can i get a hell yeah?
  6. i'm sure plenty of berkley potentials care very much about your decision. you must be ripping the web apart for logistics on everything from popular chicago restaurants to places your dog can poop. it must be nice to have some semblance of where you'll end up!
  7. someone say something! it's cold in here.
  8. the end is near!!!! oh, wait. another month to go.
  9. oh yeah, lxs, i've been there and every other crusty nook available on the www! i've probably invented a new level of OBSESSION...previously unknown to man. i'm trying to move on, but it's tough...good thing netflix has over 16,000 titles, eh?
  10. ok, no8do, next year (should we not get our way this time around) we'll combine our applications. with my art history background, good gre scores (v: 700, q: 650 aw:6) and your language abilities, internship at penn and publications....we'll be a shoe-in. my only question is: are you with me? :x
  11. well, i have a reading knowledge of latin, but greek is still greek to me. i'm expecting they'll understand as i'm coming straight from undergrad. work. it's sad because i have good grades, gre scores, etc. but i have no professional experience and this could cause me to lose out. you guys with MA's and theses under your belt must look mighty fine to a committee that needs to know you're cut out for graduate school. ARRGHH!! from what i've seen: only about 1/3 to 1/2 (depending on the dept.) are students straight from undergraduate departments. so, yeah, i'm only 'competing' against others coming straight in from B.A. programs, but i'll bet they go for joe schmoe from princeton before they ever look at the guy from Ohio State. i could be wrong. after all, my letters of rec. are very good as i knew my professors on quite a personal level. i need a drink...
  12. i wouldn't fret. the gre is always relative to other considerations (i.e. your publications will compensate for the so-so test scores). and, they are still pretty solid at that - - plus, you have teaching experience! quite rare to have your own class. you're so right about not needing a FAFSA form if they fund everyone, but i guess their thinking is they have to give uncle sam something....so as not to make him feel out of the loop? lord knows he'll take his hunk once your award comes in!!!
  13. ^^^^true. we all need every advantage possible. i feel as if we're all lepers climbing over one another to get to a moving bread truck. and, they have but one loaf left!!!! lxs, you have very good credentials. i would say as long as your undergrad. and ma gpa's are above 3.6 that you are a sure fit for at least two of your programs. well, a 700+ on the verbal gre section wouldn't hurt either! how interesting that you and halifax are both into gender studies, too. you guys are making me feel less and less confident. thanks for that.
  14. thanks! i figured i needed a mythical name for the feat of getting in to these programs. my area of interest is greek/roman art (i won't bore you guys with the details- - lol). but, i don't have a large amount of background as i'm coming straight out of my undergrad. work. for the understanding of art history one has barely gotten started with an undergrad. major in it. we'll see how they like us 'blank canvas' types. lxs, harvard is kinda...bastard like? they aren't exactly biting at the bit to help you out with the process. i think they get sick of students muffing up what they consider a straight forward procedure. only thing is: none of these institutions have a very 'straight forward' application process! take me: i just found out there was a second part to the application from you!
