  1. I just completed my graduate SLP degree. I would say to make sure you are familiar with the overall content of the graduate courses required, such as fluency and dysphagia. Read 3 papers that the person interviewing you wrote (recent and from a few years ago), read abstracts from some of the recent conference presentations from faculty, and also read a few papers from other faculty in specific areas that you find interesting. Make sure you know everything about the program that is printed in the catalog or is on the website so you don't ask redundant questions. Reference the catalog in your questions, "The program curriculum states that we have to complete 3 off-campus clinic rotations. Can you please tell me the types of experiences I am likely to have during these rotations?" etc. Know the overall steps to ASHA certification. Prepare your reasons for wanting to work in the field overall, and attend that program in particular. Do not underestimate the time you need to spend preparing for the interview. If you do your research ahead of time, are knowledgeable, and display enthusiasm regarding a professor's research, you have a better chance of being remembered. There will be far more qualified applicants than they can accept. You want to be remembered.
  2. Good luck! I will be applying to HF programs next year. I have an MS in communication disorders and most of my lab experience is in brain-computer interfaces and speech perception in noisy environments, so I am hoping to fit in somewhere.
  3. I know this is about the master's programs, but I was wondering if those who are well versed on program acceptances know if the PhD programs are as hard to get into......I have been accepted to a decent state school program to start work on my master's in the fall, and I will pursue a PhD after I complete that. My school does not have a PhD program. I have a 3.8 gpa, 167v 155q 5 writing. I have had 2 posters in ASHA, first-authored a paper in AJSLP, received about 10K in research grants from my school and a few other organizations. I have 2 years speech/hearing research and 2 years neuroscience/EEG research. I should have first author on at least one more paper before I apply. I thought I would be competitive for the PhD programs but so many people seem very qualified on here. I appreciate any advice, I want a research career.
