  1. Mine was sent on April 21st on arrived on Friday the 24th. Let Jonathan know and he'll send you another letter if it hasn't arrived by Monday.
  2. How do you know? Did they tell you what the letter said?
  3. I am in Boston and I received my acceptance today as well! No more agony!
  4. According to Jonathan, they were sent out yesterday, so make sure to watch the mail Thurs, Fri, Sat. Good luck!
  5. Thanks!
  6. Is it on the Fulbright site? For some reason, it just has the old statistics. Where is it?
  7. The last I've heard from Jonathan was that he was hoping it would be sent early this week. Someone called yesterday and they said it hadn't been sent yet. They are still waiting on the FSB. Jonathan was out of the office yesterday so the update was given by his secretary. I hope someone calls today to figure this out.

  9. Number and research or ETA?
  10. Thank you so much! His name is Jonathan Akeley and his number is (212) 984-5487. Can you ask if the Hong Kong ETA notifications have been sent out yet. If not, when they will be. Thank you! [Edited at 10:56 AM]
  11. Unfortunately, homeboy and his secretary will probably recognize my voice. Anyone else want to take a shot?
  12. Yea I agree. I am not going to bite the hand that may feed me. I am frustrated but I am not going to let my emotions overshadow my judgment. Don't risk it; it's not worth it.
  13. I read this and almost broke my phone in half. They should send people an email as well as the formal snail mail since its so late. Thankfully my masters program in China gives me some leniency as far as a response. This is insane.
  14. Also to confirm, there are 20 positions for HK ETAs. Majority (16) will be sent to HKIED, the other 4 will go to Open University. Unless they changed the program this year..........which I doubt.
  15. Also, I called (even though I feel extremely guilty for calling for the 2nd time this whole time), but anyways, I called for Hong Kong and she said that notifications will be sent out today or tomorrow.
  16. Yea, I think four ETA's go to open university (hence why you see the website for both HKIED and Open University on the Fulbright site for Hong Kong). I was confused at first too.
  17. Well I am Nigerian, but I studied International Business with an emphasis on China. My school didn't have cantonese, but I was there for a study abroad and picked some up.I studied at HKUST for a semester and got around fine with limited Chinese. Pimsleur has been great for my Cantonese. I know based on the profiles of the previous 2 years that there are many ETA's who were from the area, so they won't use that against you. Many wanted to be ETAs to rediscover their heritage. So unless you lived in HK for an extended period of time, it won't be a problem.
  18. Movie scores are great for soothing music, or Enya. She's pretty dope too. If I listen to rap, hip hop, or rock, I'm seconds from breaking something so drinking tea and listening to instrumentals have worked for me.
  19. I wonder if they treat Hong Kong and China the same in terms of notifications. Oh well. I hope everyone's anxiety level is doing better than mine.
  20. Well I know for a fact that Hong Kong has made a decision; they are just waiting for the FSB to approve them. I don't know if they group China and Hong Kong in the same category but my advisor said that she heard it would be sent out next week. Jonathan told me himself it would be by mid April so it'll probably be then.
  21. Everyone who is still waiting who has asked the IIE representative how long it will be, has received a two week speculation if they haven't heard anything. It's standard. I was told it would be two weeks about two weeks ago and then told again today it would be another two weeks. If this experience has taught me anything, it's that I am more patient than I thought I was because every day I am 5 seconds away from running down to IIE myself and protesting for a freakin decision. This forum has been like a support group because the wait has given me serious anxiety.
  22. No, not all people who do not get an award get to become an alternate. It depends on the country and types of candidates. Sometimes they flat out reject people and then have a certain number of alternates. But basically you are not defaulted automatically as an alternate if you aren't a principal candidate.
  23. LOL I agree. There's no reason why they can't just do email and hard copy. I think they like the whole suspense feel that goes with this waiting process.
  24. I believe it's the FSB who delays the process a bit. Once the FSB approves it, the IIE goes and sends out the final decisions. But remember it's one board of 12 members, making all of these decisions so naturally it'll be a lengthy process.
  25. Yea this is getting ridiculous. If the Rhodes and other prestigious scholarships can get back sooner, I think the Fulbright should speed this up. It's been 8 months. I'll have a child before I find out my decision.
