    MGH

Hi! Also attending MGH in the fall!
  2. I agree with the posters above. Take the Fulbright program and speak directly with the graduate school to see if they can make an exception about deferment as your case is special. Rules are made so that they don't have to defer anyone who merely wants to defer. It doesn't mean that they can't bend them now and then. And if they don't defer you, then apply again. There are many graduate programs, and they are not going anywhere. Don't pass up the Fulbright opportunity. Visit the program and make up your own mind. Everyone has an opinion, and you have to feel what's right for you. Perhaps it is the people at your current school who have the warped perspective about Pitt!
  3. Hi Kathleen! I have visited MGH and might be able to answer some of your questions. I also plan on attending the open house next week, and I'm going to try and visit Vanderbilt the week after. I'm having a really tough time deciding between the two. A chat conference sounds like a great idea if you're up for it. I would just have to learn how to use google+! Hey excitedSLP! Congrats on the scholarship to Vandy! I'm still waiting on my admissions package, and having a very difficult time making any decisions between them until I visit. I have already visited MGH, so I might be able to answer your questions. Private message them to me and I'd be happy to answer whatever I can. Not that my opinions means anything, but... if you really want to build your career in the Boston area, then I would attend MGH. You'll make more connections through the institute and your externship, especially if you wanted to work for Mass Gen. However, a 50% scholarship is significant, and you're looking at owing an additional $60,000 in loans when you leave school if you don't go to Vanderbilt. So if money is no concern, then I'd say go with MGH and start building your life there.
  4. I was accepted to Vanderbilt!!! So now, almost like both of you, my final decision is between MGH and Vandy! I visited MGH last year and might be able to answer some of your questions. I guess I'm going to have to visit Vandy to figure this out. This is going to be a very tough decision.
  5. Forgive me for asking as I'm newer here. How do you all add that information below your posts that show your acceptances and rejections? I can't seem to figure it out! And for what it's worth, thank you all for your responses to my posts. I really appreciate them. I only wish I would have found this forum sooner!
  6. Agreed, I think they are going to kick themselves for that email! I didn't want to annoy them on Friday, but they did say to contact them if we hadn't heard!
  7. When you say "close-minded" and mention "social issues," I have to ask this question. From what you have heard, do you think it would be difficult to be in the program as one who is openly gay?
  8. I just discovered this forum yesteday and really appreciate it. I ended up staying in last night and catching up on all these posts. Very informative. I am still waiting to hear from Vanderbilt! If I don't find anything in Monday's mail, do you think I should contact them?
