  1. Hi everyone!

    1) Congrats to everyone who was promoted,

    2) Could anyone tell me of how I could go about receiving IRB approval for my Fulbright project. I cannot do it through my University because I just recently graduated, and since I no longer have an affiliation with this University, I cannot use their IRB services. The only other option I was thinking of, is paying for IRB approval through Western IRB, however, this is expensive and I would like to explore other options before doing this.

    Any suggestions?

  2. So, I graduate on Saturday and leave the country two days later and will be gone for 2.5 months. If I receive the FB full-grant, how long do I have before have to turn medical forms back in?

  3. agreed, I want to know if we can hope to hear this week, or if I should put my misery out of the way for another week and concentrate on school since I have final exams next week! I have several graduation related events and ceremonies, and at each one when they ask what I'll be doing after graduation, I don't know what to say...its either grad school, or Fulbright - hopefully Fulbright!

I emailed Jermaine recently, so I do not feel comfortable bugging him again. I'd appreciate any updates though. I realize that it is out of Jermaine's hands at this point, and I really appreciate his patience with us. However, even if it is out of Jermaine's hands, maybe he can at least tell us whether or not we can expect to hear this week.

agreed! I have a feeling it is not this week as well.

  4. Sub-Saharan Africa Folks:

I don't know when we will be hearing, so perhaps I shouldn't say anything. In any case, I tried calling and it is fairly safe to say we won't be hearing until after Jermaine Jones returns, at the earliest. I believe he is out of the country at the moment. We could hear before then, who knows (stranger things have happened, I'm sure).

Granted, I'm sure many of you have already accepted this fact I still wanted to share what I could find.

Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your week and have a good weekend without too much anxiety! Good luck to you all!

Thanks! Graduation is on April 28 and I leave the country April 30...so it would be nice to hear before then :-/

    THANKS ANYHOW! :)

  5. has anyone heard about Sub Saharan Africa recently?

    I have not, have you?

I was curious about the same thing. I feel very strongly that SSA will find out next week, based on the emails/calls to Jermaine Jones

  6. I was really hoping today was to day for sub-sahara. Bummer!

I broke down and called Jermaine Jones and he said he is still waiting for clearance to let us know, and that it probably wont be until the end of this month --__--

This time last year, it looks like sub-sahara was already receiving notifications. *Sigh* oh well!

  7. Received email confirmation at 4:46pm (11:46 est) from Jermaine Jones and Theresa Graza that my "informal notification of acceptance" is now indeed a formal one. Full grant to Israel!!! Anyone else?????

    conggggrats!!! this is so exciting!

  8. For the spreadsheet - Alternate for Russia full grant. Notified April 11th. I guess time will tell whether that amounts to anything. It's been fun reading you guys. Good luck and be well

    Awww well stay hopeful!

  9. ahhh this is gruesome! I am freeeeaking out! Ah, I feel like eating all of my emotions away. I am so stressed! If I do not get this, I do not know what I could potentially do post-graduation!!!

My host affiliate for FB said they would still be happy to have me even if I do not receive the scholarship. Do any of you guys know of any other funding opportunities that are not too late to apply for, for this upcoming fall?

  10. I just got that as well. I'm an alternate. Not sure if I'll withdraw my status or not. Not sure how likely it is that I'll end up getting placed somewhere.

Why would you withdraw? The end result could be great!

  11. hm..you should call jermaine and ask him about this...did you apply for the eta or full? i think both are supposed to attend the pre-departure orientation but i could be wrong.

Jermaine Jones told me that full grant applicants to Sub-Saharan Africa will not need to attend a pre-departure orientation, only ETAs.

I did not receive a save the date email, and I applied for a full-grant.

  12. Why haven't I found out yet WHhyhYYyhyhyyYYyyyyyYYyyYYY!!! I can't do it anymore!

haha, i knew going into this, that Africa would be one of the later countries being notified. We are working on african time here ah! On this time, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't know until June, haha ;-)

  13. It doesn't ask specifically for PAP smears. My doctor said I didn't need one till I was 25 or sexually active...neither of which has occurred yet. Curious what she'll do on this one.

    same here!

  14. Hi all! Long time lurker here.I was wondering if anybody else was working on the medical forms?

Anyone else in the difficult position of their most recent physical exams being out of the 6 month period Fulbright gives us, but still within the year, so insurance doesn't cover it? Looks like I'm going to have to shell out several extra hundred dollars for a second physical exam within a year (had one last August) that would've otherwise cost $10. Anyone else in the same position? Any suggestions?

Also, to the other women out there: are you sending in the PAP smear results, even if they come out normal? Or only sending attached test results if their abnormal?

Oh, the joys of hoop jumping. It will be worth it in the end!

We have to get PAP smears?...ugh.

  15. Okay just talked to Jermaine... He said that he hopes we find out in the next week or two (for Morocco anyway). I asked him whether the decisions came in from the commission in Morocco already; he said yes, he has them, but can't send out decisions until he gets a green light from DC. I don't really know what type of green light, but whatever. So at least decisions have come back from Morocco... Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut nothing new besides that, really.

yay! this is great news! I wonder if he has information on my country? I wonder if he would be annoyed if I called and asked? :)

  16. Re: Morocco/MENA

I applied for a full fellowship last year and made it past the first committee review. I didn't receive the rejection until about April 18th (via courrier though). I decided to resubmit my proposal this year, since I knew it was successful the first time around. I'm under the impression that we'll probably hear back around the same time.

I know it is nerve-wrecking to patient. However, having been rejected once makes it much more easier to prepare for an unsatisfactory response, although, I am more prepared and hopeful this year.

Thank you so much for this post!

I am really nervous that I will be so close, and then get rejected.

Including your proposal, did you keep everything else the same in your application this year?

    Are you a graduate student?

    thanks!
