so, yes, I admit it - I have never taken a single econ-course in my life...now that we have passed this embarrassing issue
- I need your help.Is there anyone out there considering of going to the Elliott School this Fall and does have to take this econ-crash course in advance? I wrote to the school but they could not help me with details, yet. I just would really like to know how much this course is - any ideas?!
btw I'm still torn between BU and GWU - I mean, I love BU and Boston but I have to admit I have second thoughts concerning ranking and reputation...

Hey guys,
I am really sorry to hear you have made such bad experiences with BU. I was there for a semester (History Dept.) and I loved it. I had Bacevich as a teacher and I thought he is very good! I enjoyed his class a lot. I know that it will be tough to get internships in DC or NYC in the summer without being there before but it should be manageable - I hope

To cleo - I am about to accept but I am still confused, too. And, I need to talk to my advisors with my German scholarship institution before I can make a decision - I am going to see them next Fri.....

Hi PaulaRevere - I applied to the BU IR program (Global Dev Policy). Submitted my materials for the early deadline(Jan 15)...but still haven't heard back!! Anyone else waiting for a decision who also applied before Jan 15 deadline?

Well I applied last minute so I got my application in to BU and University of Georgia (I will not go there it was a safety school). My real other option is the Fulbright. I'm waiting on a full grant to Italy to get a masters in food communication (it sounds totally absurd but actually looks like an amazing program that is all about slow food and how to promote it, and ... it would be free
).What about you?
Edit: By the way, I would assume that it is a good thing you two haven't heard yet. You have probably made it further in the decision process than myself.
Well, I got admitted at the Elliott School which is the school I am going to attend in case BU has no offer of financial aid...and in case they do, the decision still will be tough. I studied for a semester at BU and I loved it - still have a couple of friends living in the city - which is amazing - to me at least
- and I would love to go back...then again, GWU has got a very good reputation and I don't know whether this'll help me more regarding the job hunt later...Good luck for your Fulbright-program - (no worries, I don't think it is absurd - we all should be more aware of what we eat, how we eat it, where it comes from and what we do with leftovers - totally far from the topic here
, but very recently the German government published a survey showing how much food German throw away every year just because the food had reached its expiration-date...) -

so, I am from Germany - small wave into the north
- and I studied (History) for one semester at BU. In my opinion - Boston rocks . Seriously, there are so many students from all over the world, it is a really great multicultural atmosphere. Nice people, many nice things to do in Beantown (beach, music, sports, New England to explore...Canada is not far away either). The city has a European touch, for sure. Some parts remind me of Victorian London . RedSox, Celtics, Pats, Bruins - sports is everywhere you look. BU has got a great and active student body. The professors were very helpful and my American friends were great in helping me to cope with the many new things I had to deal with while being the first time abroad for a couple of months.I have got a BA and in about 2 months MA-degree in History and American/British Cultural Studies and want to do another MA-degree in International Affairs. So, right now, I am still thinking about BU and the Elliott School.
NY as a city is at least as great as Boston but I have only been there as a tourist. I guess I could happily live in both cities
.In order to get an idea of prices for flatshares - look up craigslist.org - it depends where you want to live (if you don't mind to liver further away from campus, you pay less of course. My opinion - you'll need about $800/month for rent. It can be more it can also be less but to get something nice, with utilities...well, as I said - my opinion.) Living is expensive - again my guess would be that NYC and Boston are comparable...?!
I am uncertain about reputation as well as my heart is pounding heavily for Boston. The reputation of DC however would not hurt for an international career...

Yes number 1 is SIPA as of now. Number 2 is CMU because they're the only ones who've given me some funding !!!
Although i was thinking, since you're from Germany, you're an international student...so perhaps BU would be good...it's internationally very well reputed. I know it's known well in India...

).Hm, I was thinking about learning Hindi and maybe, if I get the chance, to do projects in India. Ok, I have no idea whether learning Hindi is a good idea at all as most people are able to speak English. Still, you can learn so much about a culture this way.

Hi guys! Congrats to all of you who got in! Actually, I was accepted at BU and GWU. I have applied to SIPA but this was more due to the olympic concept "It's the taking part that counts!"
Apart from the fact that you all seem to have done so much already I know that I won't have a chance at all. Still, there is a slight hope even though I'd be more than happy to go to Boston, or DC.
Nevertheless - I thank you all for posting here cause I thought I was the only one freaking out about this waiting...I still have not heard anything...so Madrilena25- we're in the same boat!

ok, I have a general question - do companies, NGOs, etc in DC take interns just for one day/week?! Is that possible?
and @ CalSeeker - this is a very personal question, but how do you succeed in working full-time and attending grad school? I mean, I am an international student and many things at a US-university are different in comparison to Germany (especially, when it comes to essay-writing), but still - sounds amazing what you are managing...
