I took a year off before my master's program and I'm so glad I did. It helped expose me to many sides of the art world that I had not interacted with in the bubble of my undergrad program. It helped me narrow my interests, decide what I did NOT want to do, and (after many hours of filing and copying) so grateful to be back in the classroom and challenged intellectually.
