This is new - someone would always pick up before. Also, the recording, which used to come on after hours, used to say "in early April". Now it says "as soon as possible in April"...

I agree, they seem to be desperately needing all the extra time they can get without it being too ridiculously late - which I guess would be beyond the 15th. Also, I spoke with someone on the phone earlier and they said they might give the awards out first to people who they know will definitely get it in any case, and letting people who are definitely not going to get it know as well. The rest will remain in limbo.

Oh, and she confirmed that there will be more awards this year - not sure how many though. But you would think it would be a good number more than previous years if it is such a mess to do it.

From the conversation I had earlier with the NSF person, it seems like Friday is a long shot. She also said that for people who might be missing deadlines now because of this, they should go ahead and make the best decision they can now and then go back and change things later if they win the award. Not too helpful, but what else can they say?

Alright, I admit it. I called again today. It seems they should be up by Friday, and the reason for the delay is budget issues. I was told that even though the stimulus package is there, it is not guaranteed money yet, so they might have to give out awards in installments and not all the money at once.

Okay...I am going to convince myself that the results will be posted on Monday...that way, if they are posted earlier, it'll be a completely unexpected surprise! Man, I have gone just crazy! Come on NSF, put us out of this misery of not knowing! :?

The call center has always existed, from the beginning of the whole application process, and for several years. It is not something that was created in response to all the calls right now. And yes, it is largely pointless since the answers we get are the same as what they post online, but it does relieve anxiety and gives hope that there might just be some clue as to when awards will be announced...

Yes, it is a call center, which is why it is silly to think that by calling we are disturbing their work.
