  1. To apply for the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, do I have to obtain supporting letters from the Profs/Institutions that I listed in the location of tenure field?

My understanding is that this is optional. My concern is that, if I don't have a support letter, does it harm my application?

What I plan to do is to include three dream places I want to go, but I am not confident that these places would support me, so I might have to change locations after I get the fellowship (if I am lucky).

Anyone who has any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a Vanier. Only a regular CGS. Still happy though. I guess all applicants already knew about their results,

since the results were sent out as early as last Thursday.

  3. I am just curious...

If you are on the reverse list, do you still get a rejection letter?

Or you won't hear anything until later they decide to give you an award (say if all the people before you get other major awards) or not?

  4. I have been checking research.net fairly frequently for the past week or so and there are definitely no results posted for the 2008-2009 doctoral research awards. The only award that seems to be published when you click view decisions on the CIHR website, is the Doctoral Research Award: HIV/AIDS (Community-Based Research) (2008-2009).

Thanks for the information. Hope it'll come up next week. Good luck to all.

  5. If you got forwarded by your school for the Vanier don't you automatically get a CGS? Best of luck with it!

Thanks. The letter given by our university only mentioned that I would be considered for a CGS if not offered a Vanier. And as someone posted earlier,

NSERC made some confusion about this. Anyway, I am still waiting for an official notification from NSERC.
