Hi! As a Phd applicant from India, I am writing to professors in the department whose research interest correspond with mine. But American University, Washington DC told me not to write to individual professors as it was not required. Should I apply to AU or not? The program fits my interests but I am told that you must have a professor's backing to push your application through.
