i got a rejection email.

sadly, i think we should not get our hopes up. i was rejected last year and my email came much later than the award and hm emails. i find it odd they posted a partial list. i mean we already got a rejection in a sense, we aren't in the 'best group'. it's almost like the nsf felt the need to say 'look we are working i promise'

i'm the guy with the 10 lines of python (WOW) monitoring the site. it goes down a LOT though admittedly this downtime is surprising and surprisingly long. THAT SAID, common sense argues they will NOT post the results now. perhaps the tech people, who do work at this time, have been told to do something which perhaps relates to the scores, but the people actually running this show do NOT want to be working at this hour and they would not release results now when they could do it tomorrow morning. ie go find something better to do

i like to imagine this thread as a great big room, and we just all sort of shamble in, standing in the back while frowning at a big screen showing the nsf site and our inboxes. now and then someone spreads some known information (scant) or misinformation (more likely), and perhaps superchuchubu (sp) calls and makes us more miserable. perhaps someone with a hook and cutlass starts poking around.

i should say, with the exception of the post with the music video in a berkeley building basement, that was awesome

hi ZETETIC ELENCH. everyone's going crazy, hope we all get it. all the 'smart girls are nasty' talk last night made this place particularly unappealing, but i think it is obvious we all want the award and don't want to be informed second hand due to weird glitches that we didn't get it (i learned from someone else last year, when i was happily ignoring the whole situation, waiting for email).

i've had a 10 line python script monitoring the awards page for changes for one week now. the website goes down at roughly this time (+/- 20 minutes) every night.

haha i just meant it to fit YOUR regime. anyway, i hear they're putting the fellowship results in 2 minutes.....

i'm pretty sure they're going to take this place down, and then start mass mailing our department mailing lists to say someone in our department has the list, but they are playing hide-and-seek (and don't like you anyway).

i enjoy the fact that there are 51 guests on this forum right now, and so many recent posters have almost no posts. personally i think the site goes up and down based on posting frequency here, just to fuck with us.

yeah, it emails me whenever something odd happens, so that's how i know about the downtimes (they might be in this thread as well). anyway, don't worry about it for a couple days..
