  1. I usually look at the page of each professor and see the most recent paper he has. If his last paper was more than 2 years ago then don't go there. That professor definitely stops his research mainly because he has a tenure (lazy and no pressure, maybe) or he was promoted to be in a higher position like Director or Programmer.

    Applied: 4/4 (Economics)

    Fund: Texas A&M, WSU

    Go: WSU

  2. My GRE is not high, 1180. GPA is 4.0 with Phi Kappa Phi Honorary. Research is good with one selected paper and some studies that both of professors really like. One of them is graduate programmer (the second professor). He knows my GRE already.

  3. Just got 2 responses from two professors, one is assistant professor and another is graduate programmer.

The assistant professor replied that he will recommend me to the selection committee that I am full qualified for Ph.D. He also said my research is interesting.

The second professor did say I'm competitive but he needs to evaluate other applicants. But he said I keep in contact with him and believe his school really matches my thesis.

Anyone can evaluate that do I have a chance in those schools?

  4. My quantitative is 730. Yes, I meant Matlab (sorry for the typo). Agricultural economics actually do not involve anything to agriculture. They call it agricultural economics because some researches are risk study based on insurance products for farmers. Environmental economics is also in this department

My topic's research is about using simulation to evaluate risk that farmers take on. I took 2 classes of maths in undergrad school: linear algebra and calculus and 1 class of math in economics in master program. Otherwise, I also took courses of econometrics, micro and macro economics and will take game theory course this fall.

  5. I intend to apply for Ph.D in economics or agricultural economics as well next 2012 fall. I really appreciate your suggestion.

    Here is my profile:

    + Undergrad: Investment economics (not from famous university);

+ 2 year experience in securities company

    + Pass CFA level 1

Master (expected graduate: May, 2012): Major in Agricultural economics, Mississippi state university.

    - Expected GPA: 4.0.

    - GRE: 1180. TOEFL: 84. Research Assistant.

    - Papers: I have to wait until the end of this semester but my professor thinks that I can have 2 journals from my thesis.

    - Interests: risk analysis, econometrics, simulation (my thesis uses several types of simulation)

    - Can use Mathlab, SAS.

    Thank you
