  1. Alright, I created a group called "Purdue Grad Students - 2009" Join in on the fun to meet other students and help me feel like less of a loser sitting in a group by myself.
  2. Wow.... Purdue gets a surprising shoutout. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/04/16/bu ... travelthur
  3. There's a current facebook group named "Purdue Grad Student Unite" which sounds like a lonely grad student is trying to unite with him/herself. We can crash that one or I can create a new one. Hopefully with proper plurality and such.
  4. I may miss orientation due to a summer internship. Although, that has not been finalized yet. But you guys should still go ahead and hold one when you get to Purdue. I'm willing to trade emails with anyone who wants. Just use the little mail icon in the box to the right and we can trade email that way.
  5. I've been admitted to the Materials Science Ph.D. program. I'm currently scrounging around craigslist for apartments, but I'm worried about finding something because I won't be able to visit until early June. Even then, I probably won't be moving in until the end of August. In any case, I'd also like meet new, incoming grad students. Even though I'll probably be mostly associating with those in my program, I think it's important to have friends in a lot of different areas. Maybe we can organize a meet and greet at a bar sometime in late August or early September.

Hey man, don't lose hope. Getting an NSF fellowship is a good way to get them to reverse their decision. If you got an NSF grant then they may have made a mistake, and you're practically free to them. It's a good bargaining tool.

Even if they are telling the truth, they got it by a glitch. Who knows if the announcement they saw was a glitch as well. In my situation, and many other people, I assume, getting this fellowship will affect your school choice, or you'll try to use it as a bargaining tool. If you don't find out the results officially, it's extremely dangerous to make a decision or even use the results as a bargaining tool. I know the wait is killing everyone, but it seems best that we just wait it out.
