  1. Haha! It's called a defense mechanism...
  2. We knew about 6 pages ago, but thanks for thinking of us!
  3. Yeah, I think it would still be possible to be rejected, but you stand a very high chance of an HM I bet.
  4. Sorry I think I'm going to accept... Hopefully you'll get in and I'll see you next year though!
  5. I got mine at 11:28PM (MST) or 1:28AM eastern
  6. So people who got their rejection or acceptance and are currently choosing schools, has it helped you make your decision? I didn't get the GRF so I'm pretty sure I'll be going to University of Michigan for the CSE PhD program. I probably would have gone there anyway, so I'm not too upset!
  7. Heh! thanks. Such a good song...
  8. I got the rejection email too -- last name starts with B. Oh well. I wasn't that hopeful to begin with. I am looking forward to the rating sheets though to get some feedback. That will be much better than grad school rejections.
  9. I think its whatever they put when applying for the GRF. It doesn't really mean anything because they might not have gotten into that school.
  10. Ann Arbor is actually a very safe town itself. As for the public transport, I don't think it's all that bad (though not great). They have busses running between north and south campus every 15 minutes during the day and I think some of the bus system runs until 2 AM. The rabid wolvering piece is a little intimidating. I would suggest wearing thick gloves to prevent the transfer of rabies and attempting to strike the beast on the side of the head. If you can land a solid blow, it may loosen its grip on the diploma enough for you to pry it loose.
  11. I'm betting on Thursday, though I could never get the hang of Thursdays. Tomorrow would be too obvious, and Friday a bit smarmy. Of couse they could throw in the classic Austrian Roundabout and go for next monday. That's the oldest trick in the book... I have been one of the many "guests" watching the thread, but I decided I'd get in on the fun. Mostly I'm too lazy to log into fastlane myself with all those letters and numbers and such I have to type in so I'm going to see when all the frantic people on this board find its been posted. So this question was probably already answered in this enormous thread, but if you are awarded the GRFP (which I am not all that optimistic) can you defer it for a year? I have been offered a first year fellowship at one of my top choices and it would be nice to be able to keep that the first year and do NSF after that.
