  1. Just got word from my scholarships office that I won a 3-year CGS! I'm a bit confused though, because I already had an MA SSHRC and OGS, so I didn't think I was eligible for the 3-year award? Will have to see once the official letter arrives... 2 years is pretty great too though! Stats for the record: - going into my 2nd year PhD in the fall - fast tracked after first year of a 2-year MA program - MA SSHRC and OGS (SSHRC let me use the MA award for the first year of my PhD) - 5 peer reviewed journal articles - one as first-author, one book chapter- first author, and one book review - 3 conference presentations - one national - 4.0 GPA - 3 years professional research experience between undergrad and MA - 5 TA-ships and co-instructor for one class - admissions committee member - national conference organizing committee member Best of luck to everyone who's still waiting! I lurk, but this forum has helped me so much with my applications and kept me sane during the wait. I've got my fingers crossed for you!
  2. A happy update: my program is letting me start in January, so I can keep my SSHRC this year. Now onto applications for next year. Eek! Thanks for all your support!
  3. Thanks for your responses, TakeruK and lewin00. I'm still waiting to hear back from SSHRC, but it looks like I may be out of luck. According to grad studies a student in a previous year was in the same situation, and SSHRC would not make an exception. In that case, unfortunately, I lose my direct entry spot as I wouldn't have funding Kind of a frustrating policy...
  4. I have a question about a strange last-minute funding situation that I'm hoping someone can help me with: I was lucky enough to win a SSHRC masters award for the second year of my MA starting this year. Last week I received an offer from my program to start a direct-entry phd ... in September... eek! Does anyone know what happens to SSHRC masters awards when you switch from a masters to phd program? I looked through the award holder's manual and couldn't find any information. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I won't lose my award if I accept, will I? If anyone else has encountered this situation and knows what happens, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks!
