  1. I know Columbia is not top tiers for Civil Engineering, but I heard they have a good network with the industry in NYC. Maybe i am wrong? Does anyone know more about Columbia's engineering program network and job placements?
  2. Ireney do you know if your friend is doing research or just the one year 30 credits?
  3. Did any of you applied or got accepted into Columbia University for Masters?
  4. Congrats!!! Sorry for the false hope guys....=(
  5. I hope you guys are right...because refreshing my email page is not fun while at work You guys have such high hopes...i try to make myself think positively but i just have that strong feeling towards rejection. I wouldn't be shock/surprise if they email us to check the website and boom...there it is...denied admission
  6. That's true but when MIT sent out the email saying your application is complete, along the email stated they will notify your decision no later than 3/1
  7. I believe it was for MS....but it's the same department
  8. This is posted by someone in another thread: Rejected. Nobody is going to be accepted today. I don't know why exactly we have to pay them $100 for application fee and this is the sort of nonsense treatment we get. March 1st is in fact a reject day. I don't think these people don't even read SOP or CV. I think the initial filter is just GPA. I had a significant amount of research experience and still got rejected. So I think its pretty accurate if you think about it.
  9. It's going to be a sad day tomorrow Congrats Ireney...Stanford and UCB are great schools!! too bad i am still waiting from them =(
  10. Congrats!! I still haven't heard from Berkeley yet....most likely a rejection =( I've been accepted unofficially to Northwestern and got invited to open house from Lehigh
  11. ok thanks. Where else did you applied FelipeChilean
  12. How did you guys found out which week schools do selection or sending out acceptance/rejection? I know most schools' admission website say between which month but not certain week
  13. Hopefully I will hear a positive response from Cornell this week. As long as we have not receive any rejection email from those two programs, there is still hope......at least that's what I want myself to think
  14. Tseng best of luck to you too!! Sunmaster14 are you an international student? When did you heard back from Cornell?
  15. Which school you applied for MS and MENG?
  16. I have not heard back from any of my schools yet. I have a feeling i am going to get rejected from UIUC. Couple people already posted their acceptance and UIUC's graduate recruiting weekend is in March. Windsvon congrats on Cornell, great school but not so great location
  17. I guess I will start: I am planning to apply to M.I.T,UIUC, Stanford, UCBerkeley,Cornell, U.Michigan, Penn. St., Northwestern, Lehigh, and Columbia for M.S & M.Eng Overall GPA: 3.67/4.0 GRE SCORES: will take on 11/20 Experiences: 3 years in research 2.5 years as a TA mainly grading and office hours 2 summer internships + 1 year full time 1 honors thesis
  18. We all know how stressful and tough it is for applying to grad school. So let's support each other throughout the applying process!! Any structural applicant out there?? Where you planning to apply/have applied? What are your stats in terms of GPA, GRE scores, research experience, papers, contacts with professors?
  19. Did any of you got accepted into any of these schools with mediocre GRE scores (V=150, Q=160) for Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering? M.I.T UIUC Cornell U. Michigan Penn St. Lehigh Princeton If you have, what kind of scores did you get? I know some schools said they have mininums or doesn't have any cut-offs. Also, heard many people said gre scores is not that important compare to other parts of the application. Any answers from you guys, especially from those that are already accepted or in grad school, would be grealy appreciated.
  20. I have read and heard that emailing professors and getting in touch with them is a very positive thing for graduate school admissions. However, I have a question that I could not find online and I hope anyone here can answer or in the same situation as I am. I will be applying for a master in engineering for grad school in structural engineering. I will not want to do research (M.Eng instead of M.S) so should I still somehow need to email professors in my discipline? If so, any idea how I would go about it? I feel like emailing professors only help if you want to do research for him/her or have the same interest in the professor's field. What would you even say if you are not doing research and still emailing the professor? Any advice will be grealy appreciated! Thank you!

  22. Any inputs and opinions would greatly be appreciated!! I am debating whether to go for a Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering. What is the different between the two when applying for a job? Would one have more benefits than the other out in the industrial world? What is the outlook for graduates with master of Engineering? I graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering and took one year off to work in the nuclear industry (structural part). And now i am going to back for my master but debating betweem MS or MEng. Thanks for your inputs!
