  1. Yes I applied to and will be attending USF. Honestly I can't answer where they are in the admissions process because I don't know... but I know all of our professors advise us that "it is a always a long process and to do your best not to stress if you haven't heard anything." A wave of panic always goes around after the first group of letters are e-mailed out, but our professors are constantly reassuring everyone not to panic if they haven't heard anything yet! They keep reminding us that they only send out enough acceptances at a time that there are spots for and then keep sending more and more as people reply back with their decisions (which takes a while!). For example, I was notified March 6 and my letter said I needed to notify them of my decision by April 15th! If people wait until the 15th to say "no" then my guess is they will send another round admissions around that time (again I really don't know this for a fact!) Just do your best to stay positive in the mean time
  2. I'm a USF student and I've heard some of the adcom speak about the admissions process and they always say they have to fill all of the spots, so it isn't just first round and second round and that's it, if there's still an open spot for students they will notify more from the waitlist until they reach the maximum (which differs year to year) They told us stories from past years where for whatever reason a student who had been accepted and accepted their admission backed out because they wanted another year off or something and they pulled from the waitlist the night before orientation! Hang in there!! Have hope
  3. Every time this conversation came up the grad students at my undergrad school joked about how a rolling crate cart is essential for any SLP grad student..it almost sounds like a joke but really they allllll use them! I think I'd feel silly wheeling it around, but I can see how on days when you have to bring things to set up for clinic sessions it could be useful, so I'll keep this on my list although I'd way rather invest in a cute handbag or something!!
  4. I just wanted to say, like others have been, how helpful this forum has been before and during my grad admissions process! I haven't posted but I've checked this thread numerous times especially over the past month or two during the "waiting game" and just wanted to finally log-in and say congrats to everyone and positive thoughts to those still waiting! Not many people really understand how competitive the SLP master's program is and how rough the application process can be, so I found this thread very helpful and a nice break from friends and family who just don't understand... I thought it was reassuring that many members on here shared feelings especially when it comes to people out of field and their reactions to the whole process. It's not like I was asking everyone in my life to stop what they were doing and celebrate, but when I got my first acceptance most people were just like "of course you got in, why wouldn't you?" and ahhh you people just get it on here!!!
  5. I'm also looking for more books to read before starting grad school in the fall and will definitely be drawing from this list! So far I've read Left Neglected (fiction but very applicable to SLP/left neglect) by Lisa Genova and I really enjoyed it. I also read Lisa Genova's Still Alice and it was great, about Alzheimer's. Also related to SLP I read Gabby by Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly and although it was about her whole tragedy I found it inspiring and it mentioned a little about her SLP sessions. My stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor was a short, interesting read about stroke, I'd recommend it. I have started reading Schuyler's Monster (a story written by a father about his daughter who's nonverbal) and I can share more about that once I've finished it, but so far it's an interesting perspective and story.
