Sure, I'd like to know. But only if it was a final decision, not something like 'I don't think they're going to accept you'. That's NOT useful, but knowing that you can definitively write off a university is good (as all of us waiting for confirmation of our 'implicit' rejections know...)

If it's between an ad com member calling me and telling me I didn't get in NOW, versus waiting another month for the official rejection letter, then yeah I'd prefer to hear it from the person.
