lingrussian Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 About a week ago, I logged into my CLS application (Russian) and there was a new "accepted student portal" so I clicked it and it was a message "congratulations on being accepted to receive a CLS..." and had all of the forms. 2 days ago, I logged in and it was no longer there. However when I log out, it lists "application: submitted ---- accepted student portal: in progress." When the portal disappeared, I freaked out and emailed the CLS and they told me that they were still configuring the student portal, sorry for the confusion, and they'll send out letters within the next two weeks. But....no one else from my school (Ohio State) who applied for the CLS _ever_ had this accepted student portal on their application. I'm wondering if they were adding stuff to the student portal and he just wasn't allowed to tell me that I actually did get it. Am I being too optimistic? Thanks!

I think it's a great sign! I checked my application and none of those messages came up though. So the log out message you mentioned still shows up on the screen when you log in and log out?

Guess they're upgrading their technology. Sounds like a good sign though. I had a similar issues with a fellowship, once. There was a bonus award that those accepted could apply for, and a new employee mistakenly asked us to start applying before we even received acceptances. We didn't know what it meant at the time, leading to the usual agonizing. Good luck!

I'm actually an undergrad who applied as well, and I was searching on Google and found this post so I had to register, even though I'm not a grad student =p First off, I'm 95% sure you got in. Congratulations! I've had some experience with ApplyYourself platforms in the past and if you're seeing the message "accepted portal - in progress" upon logging out it makes sense, because when you clicked through to the Accepted Portal, you actually "begun" the "process" of the portal. What the techs did at this point is that they just simply hid the Accepted Portal button, so you can't access it anymore, but because you've clicked through it in the past, it would still show up in your logout message. If you don't see that message though, I don't think it's time to despair yet. The most logical reason I can think of is that the Accepted Portal is hidden until you are given permission to click through it, and since none of us have clicked through it yet it wouldn't show up in the logout message. The OP just got lucky and saw it a few days in advance, and now he has that logout message tacked on. So yeah, good luck! : ) Also, GSG - I think you applied to Beginning Korean? (from your old posts that I found on this forum). I applied to the same program too - but I didn't see the logout message either. Fingers crossed for both of us! Also, a (potentially) helpful hint? Someone I know applied to the Beginning Korean program last year and didn't get in. She got her rejection letter via email on March 6, which is the equivalent of tomorrow if they're going by the same schedule. I'm not sure when the acceptance letters are sent out, but it seems like they were sent out later so I guess if we don't hear bad news tomorrow, it's reason for some hope? haha. Just FYI - hope I didn't stress you out more! Either way we'll find out soon! Good luck!

I feel a LITTLE bit better about not seeing the log-out message, and a little bit better that I have not received a rejection letter from CLS today. I will continue to cross my fingers, but now for the both of us. Hope we both get good news within the next two weeks!
Snydrism Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Hi all, I also accessed my application (for the Azerbaijani program) a couple weeks back and saw that "Accepted Students Portal" and got very excited and confused. There were a lot of empty fields that were along the lines of e.g. "You've been accepted to the _______ program." I didn't know what to make of it because it was nothing official. A few days later, as you all describe, it disappeared even though I could still see it on the logoff screen. Then a couple days later everything was gone, even the logoff reference. I worried a little bit. At first, when I had seen the Accepted Students Portal, I wanted to ask my friend who applied for a different CLS language if she had this, but I was a little sensitive toward what would happen if she didn't get it, shouldn't she hear that she got it/didn't get it from the program directly, and not me? As I had applied last year and been rejected and gotten the e-mail on a Friday night at the beginning of March, I was expecting it to come on a Friday night. Many scholarship and internship programs have a habit of sending rejection letters on Friday after 5pm, that way students don't have a knee-jerk reaction and flood the office with phone calls during working hours. It allows students to absorb the blow throughout the weekend and by Monday, many many fewer rejected students are still angry enough to call. When Friday night went past, I thought that it would be coming next weekend so I was very caught off guard when I got the acceptance letter on Saturday morning. Of course I'm thrilled but having seen the portal ahead of time took some of the excitement out of it. From what I'm hearing, we'll get a CLS message board later in the month to get in touch with the people from our program. I'm planning on keeping a blog because there are a lot of questions that I had for a long time about both the application process and the CLS experience for which there is not a lot of information online. I'll be sure to put up a link when the blog gets going. Stephen
SpS4 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Definitely a good sign from the sounds of it..I found out I was admitted to a grad program by logging into my account. Saw two new links at the bottom of the page (stating: Accept Offer of Admission/Decline Offer of Admission) so I checked with the school and they confirmed my acceptance (this was a few days before I received an official e-mail/letter confirming the acceptance). I can't imagine your log-in page being updated with such a clear indication of an acceptance if they didn't intend to make the offer. Best wishes! Hope you find out soon
zetetic1 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 For all of you successful applicants, why do you think you were accepted (recs, GPA, etc?) and what was your rationale for learning the language? Thanks!
