I applied for masters and I haven't heard anything. I contacted a faculty member and asked if there was an interview process, and he told me that they don't interview unless they're offering a fellowship etc so a lack of interview isn't indication of rejection either.

It's still a little early, even for fellow candidates (unless one has a close relationship with one of the profs). Feb. should be the time when they start contacting.

I forgot until just now, but he also said that they had been making decisions and planned to begin notifying some people (could just be for interviews, or could be acceptance/rejection) beginning on about the 18th of January.

Man this comment has killed all my expectations. Since you have a contact there, is there a chance you might re-check with them if they made decisions yet. If you don't I guess I'll straight up call someone on Monday.

Waiting any longer for this school is getting terribly uncomfortable on my side -- especially if it is true that they made decisions a month ago...

It's not so much a contact really. I just shot him an e-mail once... If you decide to call them, let me know what they say though.
