When to use post-nomials?

Hi all, I am completing my masters degree - I will be done in 2 weeks!  Because I am completing the program during the summer, the registrar does not confer the degree on the transcript until late September (had I finished in May it would have been by the end of May).  That said, I really want to use the letters after my name already (MS)!   Is there some official protocol somewhere about this?  Any legal considerations?  If it matters, I am in NYS.   Thanks!!

Don't do it. I know your excited and proud about the master's degree, as you should be. Just do a Google search for post-nomials and master's degree. The consensus seems to be that those who use them are insecure. I've even seen people use them for certifications and that seems desperate.
