Is anyone else seriously considering Wisconsin? Is anyone going to the recruitment weekend?

Yes, just because I have no other real offers right now. I didn't get a fellowship, but maybe there are still other options...might as well hold out hope while I wait to see about my wait lists! I'm going to the recruitment event this weekend (though to be fair, I live in Illinois, so it's not a huge investment of time or gas money).

I don't really know what to expect from recruitment weekend...anybody have any advice? I don't know what to *wear*!!

I didn't get a fellowship either, but I'm still considering the program, and I also live in Illinois, so not a big investment to drive up for the recruitment weekend. I'm assuming just wear business casual?

I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but we used priceline and got a crazy good deal (the name your own price thing). We put in 3 1/2 or 4 start hotel Downtown at $45 before tax and got the Sheraton! I think it's under $60 (including tax and fees) for Saturday night (we've got to leave Sunday to get back for class/work).

I was planning to go, but I decided I won't be going there, so, I'm not headed out this weekend. It's a shame, we could have caroused about how ridiculous this cycle has been.

I'm also staying at the hostel (I'm trying to acclimate myself to a student budget, although if I had known how cheap a hotel would have been, I would have done that). I'm going to try and scope out some apartments (or at least check out the downtown/university area) Saturday.

Seriously, priceline is awesome. As long as you don't have to stay in a *particular* hotel, you can get the craziest deals. I've gotten 3 1/2 star hotels in Chicago (multiple times) right downtown - North Michigan Avenue and the Theatre District - for under $100 per night uncluding taxes and fees and stuff. IT is really good for big cities, or places where there are a lot of hotels to fill.

Trust me, we're on a really tight budget, too (my husband is a student right now, and I work for beans).

Also Hotwire. We stayed in a 4 star hotel in Baltimore for 50 dollars. Booked like 10 days ahead. Only pick stars not name, but it works out mostly.

EDIT: I went on some WAY off topic thing to VampireLincoln about the spiritus mundi, Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and other baloney, but realized it was ridiculous. Better for a PM, but not really even worth that. Sorry all.

I'm not driving to Madison today after all because there is ice on the roads (upper midwest weather... ugh) and my car is scary in the snow. Hopefully, I'll be able to drive up very early tomorrow for the Sunday activities.
