boneflower Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 (edited) Hi all, I was interested to know which anthropology (specifically archaeology track) programs out there allow for an article-based PhD rather than the traditional single dissertation. Thanks! Edited October 1, 2018 by boneflower Deletion of word
Bschaefer Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 I’m not sure that there are any programs that have an “article” only track instead of a dissertation. I will say that I know some grad programs allow for articles that you are first author on to be included as a thesis chapter(s). I this sort of what you are getting at?-I would check with the program’s handbook that you a interested in to see about specific policies.
sierra918 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 I know someone who is doing this at Indiana, and I've heard of a few other programs, also. Bschaefer 1
DigDeep(inactive) Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 I am doing a three-article dissertation at Boston University, and have colleagues doing the same at Texas A&M University. This is a newer trend and will not always be on the websites. You can e-mail the DGS (Director of Graduate Studies) at various departments of interest - their job is to answer questions like this. Also, it is something you can potentially negotiate with your committee when it comes to defending your PhD Proposal. sierra918 1
