hownow385 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Hi Guys, As a fresh BA, I applied to PhD programs in Islamic art and architecture for Fall 2010. Although I haven't heard back from a couple of schools, I've gotten rejections from the rest. One of the professors at MIT (my top choice) called me to offer me a partially funded spot in their SMArchS program (MSc in Architecture), Islamic architecture track. It's a great offer but I don't know what I'd do with it after. Is it the equivalent of an MA in Art History? Is it only a stepping stone to another PhD program in Islamic architecture? Since it's really hard to get a place in art history PhD programs, I'm thinking of this as a terminal MA. What do you think I can do with an SMArchS in Islamic architecture? What does the job scope look like? Since it's only a partially funded spot, I'd be taking out some loans and I'd like to know I can pay them back after finishing the program when I get a job. I'd appreciate some advice! Thanks.
