It's been a while since I've had to get any letters or rec... and I'm wondering, what's the typical way to thank professors for writing them these days? Would a thank you card suffice? A small gift? What do you guys think?

I gave my recommenders a card and a jar of homemade caramel sauce. They all seemed pleased but surprised, so I think that a card would probably be just fine.

I sent a hand-written thank you card to each of them shortly after the deadline for the final letter. Once I've made a decision, I'm going to send a short letter telling them where I was accepted and where I ended up. With that, I'm thinking of sending a $10 coffee-related gift card or something along that line.

I'm sending each of my LoR writers a hand-written note and a framed print with a quick note on the back of the frame. Make it personal, and your professors will love it.
