Danny1721 Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I am applying to CCNY, Hunter, Adelphi, Nova, and possibly LIU. Top choices are CCNY and HUNTER due to affordability. I graduated with a 3.1 gpa 3.2 psych gpa. I struggled through college. I lost two family members to terminal illness which took a toll on the whole family. I’m not excusing my grades but merely explaining about the issues that contributed to doing poorer than I could have. Both programs say they pay close attention to statistics and experimental of which I received an A- and a B+. I have adequate clinical experience from interning as a counselor at a psychiatric hospital running numerous therapy groups, acted as a intern counselor at a crisis pregnancy mainly doing intakes, an intern at a mental health and wellness center assisting clients in making appointments and observing groups, I wrote for a psychology website focusing on mental health, and I was a TA for 3 classes. Two of which were stats and experimental. I have no research experience which is my reason for an MA program. My letters of Rec are strong. I’m worried about my gpa from my graduating institute and a 2.4 GPA from a university I attended for a year (not the best move, hoping that since my grades went up after transferring back that will look good). I can’t get much info from the advisors or directors. CCNY said their process is wholistic and they put most weight on stats and experimental. They require the GRE but say it’s not critical to a decision. Does anyone have any information or know of any successful applicants with gpas 3.0-3.3 who got into these programs?
