A friend and I were discussing our pursuit in obtaining an LCSW after getting our MSW degrees, but he mentioned something that perplexes me. He stated that after getting our MSW degree we need to apply and get our number from our respective state in order for us to be full fledged MSW professionals. So my question to you all is does anyone have the slightest idea what he is talking about?

I think he might be referring to the additional steps put in place by your respective state to become a fully qualified LCSW. For example, in California, you have to sit an exam, I believe, from the Board of Behavioral Science... Then once you’re licensed, you probably get a license number, so I think this might be what your friend is referring to? Anyways, here is some info on California, for example: https://www.bbs.ca.gov/applicants/lcsw.html
