EddySpenz Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 If anyone has accepted or declined an offer from Boston College or Brandeis and doesn't mind sharing, I would be curious to know. I'm on the waiting list at both schools and really hoping that an offer comes through - I would love to attend either program!

Hi EddySpenz, I haven't turned down an offer from either school, but I'm also waitlisted at BC. What's your subfield? I'm interested in Victorian Studies.
EddySpenz Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Hi MinniePup, I'm an early modernist, and also interested in colonial/postcolonial literatures. At least from what I hear about the way the BC waitlist works, I don't think we're competing with one another for a spot. :-). Let me know if you hear anything.

Do you mind sharing details about how the waitlist works? I haven't talked to anyone about it, but because it is short & unranked I assume there is one waitlisted person for each subfield and our status is pretty much dependant on which of the current admits accepts/declines. Is that your understanding? May the ivy leagues shower acceptances upon the current admits in Early Modern and Victorian studies. I will definitely let you know when I hear more news.
joeygiraldo Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 (edited) Hey, all. I was part of the '09 Gradcafe community and hardly visit this site anymore but curiously returned this morning and saw a post about Brandeis (where I attend now). For the PhD program, I believe they have two funded slots, and they are really fighting for a third. As far as I know, they've made a couple of offers since February and most have passed on them. But I believe one student is very close to confirming (we were told to contact the student to impart info. on the program), so unfortunately, that's one slot gone there. There is a waitlist but it's kinda long (only about 6 or 7 students but given that there's so few spots, I consider this "long"). Also, accepted students day is April 7th. Hope this helps. joeygiraldo Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 update: Just checked my e-mail and received good news (relatively). I'm pretty sure we secured a third available funded slot so that's a tiny, tiny light of hope I guess?

I heard that the cohort was down from 8 to 2 this year, so I know things are tough, but that's wonderful news about the third funded spot. I would absolutely LOVE to be part of the program. I will remain very hopeful!
