AMP Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Hi guys, I'm new here, and wanted to start by hearing your opinions on those two universities. Thing is, I'm an International Student (I live in the Dominican Republic) and received a Fulbright Scholarship to do my Master's in Science there in the US. I applied to 5 universities, but the ones I'm more Interested in are UIUC and Gatech... I already got accepted in GT with total funding and I'm waiting for UIUC response (might not get full funding)... The EE MsC program I want to pursue will be focused on Digital signal processing hardware and software design for wireless communication (or something on that route. If too long, just leave it as digital signal processing H and S design, my Bachelor degree was focused in Telecommunications)... Main question is which one is better academically and why for this area (I know both are great, but I guess one has to have a slightly edge over the other). If you find other reason, not academics wise, that you might find important / relevant, please let me know too. Thanks in advance!!, looking for your replies.
explorer-c Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Main question is which one is better academically and why for this area (I know both are great, but I guess one has to have a slightly edge over the other). Both are neck and neck and I'm sure nobody that is familiar with dsp would tell you otherwise. If you're doing PhD then I'd say go with the fit, but since you're doing masters, from an academic standpoint it honestly wouldn't matter which one you choose. If you find other reason, not academics wise, that you might find important / relevant, please let me know too. For me, location is just as important. They're located in two very different areas. If you like living in a small suburb, go with UIUC; if you like living in big metropolitan city, go with Gatech. If you like snow, go north, otherwise go south. Etc. For what it's worth, I was faced with the same choice (but different program, CS PhD for me) and I go with Gatech because it's better fit for me and I prefer living in Atlanta compared to Urbana-Champaign. Thanks explorer-c... where are you living, have been looking for some off campus places to go that are affordable, which one would you recommend?
