wb2un Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) There's a few of us on here on the WWS waitlist, with circa 1.5 months of agonised waiting before the axe falls. I wondered whether anyone had an intuitive sense of the prospects this year? A scan of last year's messages (as well as 78% yield) on the same topic suggest that one might rationally assume that a WWS waitlist = a 'soft reject' but, of course, hope springs eternal in the human heart... I look forward to commiserating with all of you ciao! Edited March 31, 2010 by wb2un

I look forward to commiserating with all of you ciao! The one thing I'm curious about is the claim that there's no ranking on the waitlist. The cynic in me thinks that, if nothing else, they already have pre-formed impressions of people's applications, as no extra material is added to the application file.
Batignolles Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 The one thing I'm curious about is the claim that there's no ranking on the waitlist. The cynic in me thinks that, if nothing else, they already have pre-formed impressions of people's applications, as no extra material is added to the application file. I'm not on the waitlist, but thought I would add a comment. Given how small the entering class is, I'm betting the people admitted from the waitlist are hand-picked to replace the individuals who aren't accepting their offer. That is, someone in US domestic policy backs out, they'll replace them with someone with a similar profile, rather than an international relations person; there might even be gender, minority or work experience factors to replace as well. I assume the goal in pulling from the waitlist is to keep a balanced class - that would explain why they would actually need to have an unranked wait list with a variety of profiles in it. Though that probably doesn't make it any easier to wait... now you're not just waiting for numbers to back out, but someone with the right profile! Best of luck either way, guys!

Batignolles, I think you are spot on in pointing this out. Ah well, there is no point in trying to guess. The only course of action is to Zen out and wait for the outcome that is ordained.

Agreed. :-) There's no point in worrying about it, and, as other people have mentioned, there are advantages to going to to other schools/locations as well. Good luck to everyone.

Picaz78 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Now that it is April 15 week, any insider information on how yield etc is looking like this year, despite there being no point in worrying due to the arguments above... ? I was just wondering whether I was the last person to be notified... do any of you know if they've been making offers to us "wait-listers" on a rolling basis or are they just waiting until the day after we have to accept or reject other offers for everyone?
Picaz78 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I just got a call on Thursday and offered a spot from off the wait list (mid-career MPP)! Best of luck to everyone else out there! coaks 1
SdeS Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I got offered a spot off the waitlist today. Now I'm just super confused about what to do. Anyone else hear about the MPA? coaks 1

I have no knowledge of WWS specifically but if you've already accepted a place somewhere else and want to go to WWS, I think usually you'd need to get a letter from the other place saying they release you from that, to give to WWS so you can enroll there. Congratulations, by the way!

I don't know if I feel better or worse about my chances knowing that other waitlisters have been offered spots...
aren Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Has anyone else on the MPA waitlist heard anything? Or are we all just still waiting?
SdeS Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Thanks! It was a difficult decision, but I ended up turning down the offer. So hopefully that's good news for one of you Edited May 7, 2010 by SdeS

I'll be applying in 2011 for 2012 but I would be interested in knowing more about the WWS applicants in general. Thanks.
