Okay, here's the scoop. I am interested in studying condensed matter physics. I have visited Brown multiple times; I have met and befriended a potential advisor and love the area. Also, it is a plus that it is close to my hometown whereas Rochester is a 6+ hour drive. However, I want to be certain that Brown has a better condensed matter program than Rochester. Although I have never visited Rochester, it seems like a large, strong department. Can anyone who has attended one of these institutions attest to it for me? Why is Brown the better department or vice-versa? I am thinking of how my graduate school will benefit me professionally in the future as well (post-docs, etc.). The sooner the better because I would like to give someone on the wait-list a chance if possible. Thank you.
