angel.xo Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 Hello, I just started a GRE prep course 4 days ago and this is my first time writing an issue essay. If you have any feed back, good or bad, please review! Here is my topic: Technology, while apparently aimed to simplify our lives, only makes our lives more complicated. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. Technology has changed over the last century. Communication started with handwritten letters and mailing and now we can communicate with someone within seconds through cellphones or emailing on the computer. Also, with the invention of the internet, there is a wide spectrum of information available for anyone to access. Technology has helped simplify our lives with being able to communicate long- distance easier and having access to information more readily at our finger tips. For long-distance communication, before cellphones and computers; people communicated through letters. This would have taken days and maybe even weeks to receive a letter, depending where you are in the world. With our technology being so advanced today, we are able to to communicate with people across the country or on the other side of the world in seconds. Secondly, we can access information much easier. If we do not know certain information, we can just go on our phones and look up the topic and conduct research. For example, if a person is feeling sick and they have been aware of their symptoms, the person can go online and research their symptoms to see if their illness is serious or something common. However, technology may inhibit social skills. With texting and online communication being popular in today's society, people are looking down at their phones more than having conversations face to face. This could have a major impact, because when someone goes to apply for a job and has an interview, they may not have the skills to communicate. In conclusion, technology has helped simplify our lives with being able to communicate long-distances and having information more accessible.
