Guest Pabee Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Any physicist here? Have you heard anything yet?
Guest just_me Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 To question one yes. To question two no. And it's killing me.
oceanelement Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 applied to 8 schools for astrophysics, no word yet ...
Guest Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Accepted to Washington University in St. LouisĀ and UC Irvine, Rejected from Stanford.
Guest Anon Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I've been accepted to Brown University and Washington University in St. LouisĀ and rejected from Stanford. People on other on thegradcafe board have heard from Columbia and MIT already, so I'm not optimistic about those.
Guest Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Someone heard from caltech? Is it from a professor or an admin, official or non?
Guest Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I got an email from the Caltech physics graduate secretary and then from the dean. I didn't receive the official letter yet though.
Guest Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 thanks for your reply. when is the openhouse for caltech physics?
Guest Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Someone heard from caltech? Is it from a professor or an admin, official or non? Are you a theorist or an experimentalist?
Guest Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Open house is on March 23rd if I remember correctly. And I am a theorist.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Any string people [i.e. stressed so in SOP] in CalTech??
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 and for those of you who made it in there - are you Ameican??
Guest Pabee Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 American--> No. I'm an international student with US degree String Theorist-->I'm not a string theorist. I'm a high energy particle theorist. I have taken String Theory during my undergrad year though I didn't stress it in my SOP.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I expressed interest in string theory, and I'm into Caltech. However, I also expressed an interest in theory in general; they have offered me the Richard Feynman Fellowship, $30,000 per year with apparently no responsiblities beyond coursework.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Congratulations, thats rather impressive! what's your profile if I may ask?
Guest Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Since you asked for stats, filching this off my profile post on physicsgre.com: Location: Rochester, NY (Removed by request.)
Guest Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 So does anyone know if places send out waves of acceptance offers? Or if you see that someone has got accepted somewhere and you haven't gotten your offer, then its a done deal and you should wait for the rejection letter in the mail?
Guest Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Somebody heard from Harvard physics by email today? Is it official (from a grad coord) or unofficial (from a prof)? thanks!
Guest Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 It's an official email from the department chair, but the offer is being fedexed over. Good luck...
Guest Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Did they send the email in batch or individually? Thanks!
Guest Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I came across the following websites online, and it appears one of the previous people posting on here neglected to include some things on his profile. Here's the rest of the information, such as extracurricular involvement and family life: (Removed by admin. Sorry, but I am letting you choose how much info you reveal about yourself, so give the other user the same luxury. I want to be fair.) I've often wondered what people look like who get some sort of perverted satisfaction posting their flawless profiles on as many admissions boards as possible. I hope that, at Harvard, Princeton, Caltech, or whichever school this person decides to attend, he learns that a bit of modesty can go a long way, even in academia.
Guest Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I wonder how different the profile would be if that person went to a tougher school
