Hi, I have written my first issue analysis for GRE. Please review this and let me know how to improve.
Q. The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree
with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take.
In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in
which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and
explain how these examples shape your position.
Answer:
The debate regarding teaching methods is not a new issue in our society. Some people suggest to induce penalties for the mistakes students make wheras there are others who suppots the idea of exalting students' positive activities and ignore the negative one. The statement which is given, supports the former and declares it as the best way.
Although the statement might seem right to many as it takes the high road and the pupils would be encouraged and influenced toward productiveness, this approach has a huge drawback. People realize their mistakes when they find it, not everyone is blatant about what he or she is doing wrong. If the teaching method has no option to point out the mistakes they make, how can they overcome it and be better? For instance, if there was no examination system in our schools, how could the mistakes expounded to the examinees? That system helped the students to get better and often pointed out the wrongdoing in their approaches of studing.
The last example actually sum up the significance of the acknowledgement of the negetive action. However, some people may argue that this system cause fraustration and demoralize the spirit of the pupils and in some extant, this agrument is true. In that case, it is preferable to qualify the critisism toward negetive activities to that the students can be maverick about their thinkng process. It should also be in mind that every person is not the same and different thinking can really bring something innovative.
In conclusion, it is suggested to acknowldge negetive action but not underscore it and the positive action should be taken more laudable. By this teaching approach, students would be able to realize their mistakes and work on that, on the other hand, be more encouraged when they are praised for their positive activities.
