mahmutkerim Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 Hey guys, I'm a first year international phd student in political science in a second-tier US uni. I need to select my primary and secondary concentration areas, will take the coursework and prepare the dissertation prospectus etc. accordingly. What would you suggest? Comparative politics (probably political economy in developing countries or something like that) VS. being methodologist (quant). I'll select one as my primary field and select the other as secondary; just not sure which one which. I'll take comprehensive exams for both anyway. My major was economics, so I know a thing or two about formal models, stats, econometrics etc. But being methodologist is a whole another level, it'll probably be pain in the ass, I assume. Is the pain worth it? How's the job market, salaries, demand for methodologists? Writing dissertation in methods... that would be another challenge I guess? Cheers
