I need help choosing a Masters of Education program

Heyo

I've been looking for Masters of Education or Masters of Science programs that don't require the GRE or teaching experience. I have my Bachelor's in History and want to teach high school. I have applied to in state schools but it's not working out for me since my state requires it's own teaching test (GACE) to get in. The GACE is hard and I rather just go out of state and take the PRAXIS or SAT instead.

I live in Georgia and am a resident but I'm not from here. I prefer to return to the Midwest for Grad school because where I want to get my teaching license in as wellAlso quick note the program should be shorter than 2 and a half years!

Last thing: I don't have much funding or family support :/ so I;ll literally just be getting grants, teaching residency, local jobs and whateves

Anywho here is my list of schools so far ranked from love to meh

  1. Valparasio University
  2. University of Minnesota Twin cities
  3. University of Wisconsin Madison
  4. Calvin University (Former Calvin College)
  5. Stanford University (Yes California, actually has a great program but pricey AF, I'll dream tho)
  6. University of Kentucky
  7. University of Tennessee Knoxville

It’s definitely important to consider what the teaching conditions and market will be for when you graduate and are certified. I completed my BA at UW-Madison where I’m from, but would not want to teach in Wisconsin given the conditions and pay. Madison is an amazing school, city, and fairly progressive school district that is grappling with some complex issues in urban ed.

I completed my Masters and certification at University of Chicago, and while I have loans, urban districts like CPS can offer pretty reasonable salaries if you can live within your means in the city. The tests for certification can be learned and passed - the tricky part that takes more time depending on where you are is the edTPA. You’ll want a good program that can support you with that. Good luck!
