psyche123
Hi all, I am a first year PhD student at a top 100 dev psych program. I only got one fully-funded offer last year (almost received an offer from a top 5 social psych program) and decided to take it even though the research fit wasn't great. Now that I am here, I am regretting it and wanting to change PhD programs to a more social psych program. Do you think that I should make the switch and how should I go about telling my adviser about this? My current school doesn't have a social psych program nor anyone that studies what I am interested in. Thanks! avidnote
avidnote
Why are you regretting it? Are you sure the new program will be something that you will like more? Changing PhD program is certainly possible and something people have done but does take some work to do it, so just make sure that you are confident in that decision before taking it. Gatech_ST
It it certainly possible, but maybe consider switching your adviser ? Speak to your program coordinator or your adviser. Be clear on what you want to do and see if they can direct you to someone within the university. I would only consider switching university as a last resort. Beside, PhD is an independent work, you might be able to convince a faculty supporting your research if there is intersection with their line of work.
