carolflyjs Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) I'm an international student. I have been admitted to TESOL @ NYU and Translation & Interpretation @ Monterey institute. Monterey gives me $10,000 (1/3 tuition) scholarship per year while NYU gives nothing. TESOL @ NYU Steinhardt, without teacher certificate... It's hard for a non-native English speaker to become an English teacher in NY. I'm really wondering if I can get a job after then. How about being a Chinese teacher in the future? Can I get the teacher certificates? Whether it's possible to transfer to another program remains unknown. Translation @ Monterey Institute... Well, I major in Translation (Chinese <-> English) in my undergraduate study. Monterey is a good place for interpretation (oral) study, but I seem to be more interested in translation (written). Monterey also has programs in Localization Management, education, and even business. Current students in Monterey told me it's not difficult to transfer to other programs there, so I can change to other programs if I want. Monterey is an affiliate to Middlebury and is a very small institute. NYU is definitely more well-known, although the school and the city are much more expensive and the program seems not that career-wise. Anyone could offer any suggestion for me? Thanks! Hi carolflyjs'. What was your choice eventually? I am deeply considering the MA in Trans/Interp at Monterey (French-English). My other options were unis in France (but the more thought/research I have given it the less appealing they seem). It would be great to hear from you.
carolflyjs Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Hi! i just saw it. I chose Monterey finally and i'm very glad for it. I have no idea about the French one, but MIIS does offer more practical programs. Hi carolflyjs'. What was your choice eventually?
