tom_belgium Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Hi all, I'm an international student finishing up my undergrad in Mexico. I applied and got admitted to the MA Econ at Columbia as well as MAPSS Econ at UChicago. Kind of wondering which one is the way to go. I'm fairly interested in pursuing a PhD at some point, but don't want to commit to that right away. Feeling like the Columbia program (which is longer) might be more useful to find a job more easily (both programs are STEM certified). Anyone who has experience with any of these programs?
mferu Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Hi there, I also got accepted to both and I decided to go for the MA Econ Columbia for two reasons. First, I love New York and I know I feel more at home there than in Chicago. And second, even though UChicago is extremely renown for its economics department, I have heard that the MAPSS is more like a collecting pond and not as strong as assumed coming from UChicago. That's just my two cents. Btw how did you decide eventually since the deadline for Columbia was approaching? See you maybe in August ;)
tom_belgium Posted March 13, 2020 Author Posted March 13, 2020 Thanks for your response. I asked Columbia for the march deadline to be pushed back a couple weeks. So I have about 2 more weeks to make up my mind. I'll shoot you a message. mferu 1
