doodlebug123 Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) Hello! I was wondering if anyone was willing to share their stats or any tips they had on getting into UCF's Summer Cohort? UCF is my number 1 school and I am planning to apply to the 2021 Summer Cohort. I have not taken the GRE yet. Thanks in Advanced. Yes, I am already aware that I can go to the acceptance/denial forum, and I have combed through that. Edited March 21, 2020 by doodlebug123
Madi544 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Hi! I went to UCF for undergrad and was accepted to their summer 2020 program! I had a 3.89 CSD GPA and a GRE of 306/4.00. Based on my experience, I feel like they like to see volunteering/unique experiences. I studied abroad in Korea for 6 months and related my second language learning back to speech pathology. I also volunteered at UCF's aphasia house, a language learning class for adult learners, UCF's CSD clinic, and a program for elderly individuals with dementia. I also shadowed an SLP once a week for a semester. In my essay I focused on how upholding ASHA's code of ethics would impact my career. Also, I heard from one of the professors on the admissions team that she needs to be hooked on the first sentence and it needs to stand out from the rest. My first sentence was "I first decided to become a Speech-Language Pathologist in Seoul, South Korea, while I was sitting in a coffee shop studying the Korean alphabet." Not sure if that sentence helped me get into the program but I felt like it was creative without sounding like an opener to an undergrad admissions essay. I hope this was helpful!
