I received a MS offer of admission from CMU Robotic Institution (2y research track master) and I want to make comparison with some Ph.D. offers (currently prefer UW-Madison). Both are prestigious schools and the admission decision are probably made by commitee, which means that I should find advisor after I choose their program.

UWM directly provided Ph.D. position with 4y TAships. The vision faculty is not that much, but their alumni are quite brilliant. CMU has one of the best vision community. For this master program, it seems to have 50% students to continue Ph.D. after graduation. But this program does not guarantee funding, and CMU RI might be too competitive for me to match a desired team/advisor. Another risk is that if I could not be productive in this year, my Ph.D. application 2y later might be no better than now.

Can anyone give me some advices? Thanks!
